I have said it for a while and I stick by it still.

We wont get Cloke, unlikely to get Goddard.

More likely to get guys like Caddy, Toy etc. Get a few players around the $3-500k mark.

No to Cloke...... Hope Malthouse does not want us to go and get older players to give him instant success. I want us to add younger players that fill a need to the current list.

I reckon your theory is pretty good.

Trouble is the club is looking/expecting to win a flag in the next 2-3 years.

Which we all are to a degree I guess, so expect a few more chases for a quick fix yet.

I am certainly in the ‘No’ side of the argument, however, there has been some talking about recruiting Cloke meaning that Bolt and Squid will suffer if Travis was to arrive at the club. I actually think that it would result in a significantly reduced input from Waite if Trav was to arrive. If Jarrad’s back is as bad as some have heard it is, then I doubt he will play much footy from now on. He still has 2 years remaining on his current contract ( :roll:

) but I don’t expect he will play more than 10 games a year from now on. Simply too fragile and we can’t rely on him to stand up week in, week out.

Therefore if Cloke was to come to Carlton, we could plan on him developing a KP partnership with either Bolt or Squid. Perhaps Levi playing the swing role between forward and ruck IMO it wont be a negative for both these young lads. Regardless we could have more confidence on seeing these combinations stay in place every week and perhaps prove to be more durable.

Having said that, $5M for 5 years is absurd for Travis. If the filth are offering $750k for 4 years, he should take it!

I think Carlton needs to look further than the next 2-3 years (the 5-year plan Sticks sold to everyone). It is fairly clear that 2 premierships in 5 years aint gonna happen. This year has been a throw-away, and we just lost the coach.

IMHO, there is no reason to spend $1m a season on Cloke when there are three brand-new and shiny KPFs (Rowe, Casboult and Mitchell) who are all approaching the age where they are going to get a few games here and there. In 2-3 years there may be two of the best 10 forwards in the AFL amongst those names. I don't see how having Travis Cloke at the club for the next 4-5 years on top dollar will help the others come through. We will just be left with no KPF when they have been traded to other clubs and another 2-3 young blokes we picked up in the draft who arent ready for football.

FWIW, I think Cloke will stay at Collingwood.

However, 50-60 goals from Cloke next year, on top of the contributions from Waite, Betts, Walker and Garlett, could be enough to win us a flag.

I agree with all this - if Cloke was to come I'd see Levi as a Leigh Brown type with Squid and Cloke as the main forwards and Kruez in the ruck.

I haven't had a Mars Bar since i was like 15 but even the half eaten Chocolatey-Caramel-nougat goodness that is a MARS is worth more than Cloke.

At least a MARS will help me work, rest AND play!
