Here's my notes as published via twitter. Don't treat them all as direct quotes, most should be pretty accurate, but had to paraphrase a few times to keep up...

--

And we're underway... #thanksratts

L to R: Greg Swann, Brett Ratten, Steve Kernahan #thanksratts

Sticks: On behalf of board Brett Ratten will not coach club in 2013. #thanksratts

Sticks: Ratts will coach the side on Sunday. #thanksratts

(Ratten looks relatively chipper all things considered) #thanksratts

Ratts: Club is built on success, want to play finals, we didn't achieve that, club has been ruthless in chase for that. #thanksratts

Ratts: Not worried if (next coach) is Mick or whoever. #thanksratts

Ratts: Am disappointed that not coaching club, but can't change that. Great group of players at this club. #thanksratts

Ratts: Expectation of success is great strength of the club, that shouldn't be lowered. #thanksratts

Ratts: When siren went I thought dark moments. #thanksratts

Ratts: That was a loss we shouldn't have had. I have to face up and front that... #thanksratts

Ratts: I dont feel betrayed. Board has the evidence. #thanksratts

Ratts: I was told Wednesday by Sticks between 12-2pm. #thanksratts

Ratts: I understand that's football, the club is pursuing excellence. #thanksratts

Ratts: (wants to coach St K) Why run away, why hide. I want to coach the team out. I started the year, want to finish the yr #thanksratts

Ratts: I don't really care who coaches next year. It's not me, I wish it was. #thanksratts

RT @Robbo_heraldsun: will look at coaching options.. #thanksratts

Ratts: Players are great young men, need to take it next level with our leadership. #thanksratts

Ratts: It's not about me, it's about making sure we end season on a good note. #thanksratts

Ratts: I love the club and it saddens me that I've lost my job. #thanksratts

(Ratts maintains perspective referring to Same Rowe and Sophia. All class.) #thanksratts

Ratts: I'll continue, I'll be fine. Might go fishing for the first time in 5 years. #thanksratts

Ratts: Gone through a review 1/2 way through season. #thanksratts

Ratts reckons club can win the flag next year. #thanksratts

"Early doors!!!" #thanksratts

Ratts: Sometimes we have to be patient with football teams. #thanksratts

Ratts: We've done a reasonable job coping with injuries, but not excellent. #thanksratts

Ratts off to training seesion. #thanksratts

Round of applause and well deserved too, that was all class from Ratten. #thanksratts

Sticks and Swann facing questions now. #thanksratts

Sticks: Decision on Ratts has been ongoing since mid-season. Injury toll taken fully into account. #thanksratts

Sticks: Prepared to take criticism on decision, it's a hard call on Ratts. #thanksratts

Sticks: Didn't expect to beat Ess by 96, didn't expect to lose to Suns. #thanksratts

Sticks: We'll be speaking to people like Mick Malthouse. #thanksratts

Sticks: Malthouse is one of the preferred candidates. #thanksratts

Swann: Haven't approached MM or his management at this stage. #thanksratts

Swann: Yes, I would like to work with Mick, we have a good working relationship. Are mates, would be good. #thanksratts

Sticks: Footy's a funny game, things can change quickly. #thanksratts

Sticks: Our standards are set high, we make no apologies for that. #thanksratts

Sticks: It's a close call to say if Ratts would have been sacked if MM wasn't available. #thanksratts

Sticks: Appreciate criticism of board and president. #thanksratts

Swann & Sticks laughed at suggestion that 5 year deal has been offered to T Cloke. Expect he'll stay with Pies. #thanksratts

Swann: For us to get Travis we'd have to adjust things to suit salary cap. #thanksratts

Sticks: Personal view is Travis should stay at Collingwood. #thanksratts

Swann: All assistant coaches have year to run, new coach will have final say, but expects most to stay. #thanksratts

Swann: We're all under pressure, that's the way footy is. #thanksratts

Swann: In a big club you're always under scruitny, that's the way it is. #thanksratts

Sticks: I feel like we've got blood on our hands. #thanksratts

Swann: Ratts has always put club first. Been incredible how positive he has been. #thanksratts

Swann: Review, review, review... discussions on board, to CEO, to fitness, recruting, doctors, everything... #thanksratts

Sticks: Board will retire three members this year, I've got a year or two tops to go. #thanksratts

Sticks: What you have in this game is loyalty and integrity, absolute fact we (the club) haven't spoken to MM. #thanksratts

Sticks: I'm really flat on the players after last weekend, gave harsh message to senior players. #thanksratts

Sticks: You wear the jumper, you need to perform. We’ve got good kids, they'll get better. #thanksratts

Sticks: No guarantees in this game, no matter if Roos or Malthouse come in. It's a win/loss business. #thanksratts

Sticks (jokes): We've been following Goddard for 10yrs haven't we, I don't think we're gonna get him. #thanksratts

Swann: We won't be chasing Brendon Goddard. #thanksratts

Sticks: Judd's capatincy not under pressure that he is ware of. #thanksratts

Swann: From cash position we're going strongly, will knock off $750K debt this year. Gaming revenue is going well. #thanksratts

Swann: We still think we'll have our debt cleared in next 2-3 years. Despite coaching payout. #thanksratts

Swann: Ratts was adamant he wanted to coach final game, he deserves it. Taken us from bottom to respectable team. #thanksratts

Swann: Ideally new coach would be settled in a couple of weeks. #thanksratts

Sticks: I think we need a bloke that's been around the park, not a rookie coach. We need to strike (flag) in next few years. #thanksratts

Swann: Luke Mitchell will play this weekend, big power forward overcoming shoulder probs. #thanksratts

All done. Thanks everyone... #thanksratts

Sticks: Thanks for going easy on us. Caro: Thanks for your honesty. Sticks: Was that honest, I dunno. That's all I got. #thanksratts

If I had $1million a season to spend on Cloke...

...I'd spend it on 3 x $300,000 gun players instead and go to lunch with the leftover change!!

Sticks reminds me more of a President of the local footy club, not a powerhouse of the AFL.

What you will see:

1. A very well drilled side with all players clearly knowing their roles.
2. Better development and use of the kids
3. The reserves will be closely aligned to the seniors and playing the same way
4. A game plan and structure to match any side.
5. Minimum standards that will need to be met by every player on the list.

I hope so.

Ratts showed amazing character today.

Perhaps TC might get a chance to show some Character as well.

How about we all give Ratts some respect and not dance on his grave for a 24 hour period.

How about we all not say one bad or derogatory word about him or his Coaching today.

How about we just assume that everyone has had their fair chance to trash him 24/7 as a person and a Coach for the past 12 months and today we just leave it alone.

How about it?

Regards Cazzesman

Took a very average list in 2002/3 to Grand Finals.

The list we have is much better.

As for Cloke, forget the rumours it is not happening.

Malthouse took West Coast from 10th to 3rd in 1990, Grand finalists in 1991 and a flag in 1992... pretty much where we're at now. He was very much unproven from his coaching at the Bulldogs prior to this which was barely a 50% win/loss ratio, as such I'm not entirely sure how West Coast went about appointing him on this basis. Some unproven coaches get immediate results, like the Scott Brothers, Sanderson, others not so much. If not MM then I sincerely hope we undergo due process.

We have the cattle, but it's how we deploy the cattle that has been found wanting.

You mean 2 x 500K. You don't get much for $300K, the average salary in the AFL is $250 K. But yes, I would never pay this money and give that length of contract to a Cloke. A Judd, Ablett, Pendlebury etc. yes, Cloke NO.

Character is seriously undervalued as a human quality. Yet to watch the interview but seems he handled himself well. Just hoping the club moves forward and does so in a manner that demonstrates the quality of character on show today from one of our greats.

He has three cups. He has left every club he coached in a much better position than when he took over.

What you will see:

1. A very well drilled side with all players clearly knowing their roles.
2. Better development and use of the kids
3. The reserves will be closely aligned to the seniors and playing the same way

Absolutely agree. I have doubted him, but never trashed him. He is a great man and his performance today was brilliant.

Oh well, that's what they took on when they appointed him.

Not sure I'd call him a Legend?

You might want to have a look at his record, I'm tipping that he played and coached more games than you did sunshine.

I agree, leaves with a 50%+ success rate, all the best to him and any other staff who are shown the door who did their best for the club we love

I'm really glad that Ratts got a respectful send off and he in turn showed respect to the club. Long may he be remembered as a champion of the club.

I'm certainly not a legend either? :?

Great player, great clubman, did his best as a coach but not a legend.

Maybe you and I just have a different idea of what a legend is.
