Following the presser, she thanked Sticks for his honesty.

Sticked replied with something like, "Was that honest, I don't know."

Caro replied, "I hope so."

I agree with Caro.

Can only hope that your excitement lasts for a long time (approx 56 weeks).

What a true champion Ratten is, held his head high and his dignity is intact, unfortunately his players didn't come to play every week.

It is sad to see him go but lets embrace the change and hopefully see this once great club return to the top, Go Bluebaggers!!

This.

Best press conference I've heard from him - ever!

It certainly was. Despite the bad news I expect he will feel a little better without the weight of expectation and scrutiny on his shoulders.

He was fantastic and restored a little of the fabric in the club I had lost in recent weeks.

Ratts did himself and his Club proud, even if the Board and CEO can't manage it.

so now I assume we epect to finish top 4 next year with malthouse at a minimum

didn't malthouse win only one flag at his ten years at the Pies, a Club with the resources to boot

now we'll get cloke at big $ and no guarantee he'll kick straight

shithouse decision absolutely shithouse

rewind 2002

Sticks said that? Wow, first decisive thing from him for years. Hopefully we can now concentrate on developing our own KPPs and end the speculation.

Didn't say we wouldn't pursue him, just said he thinks he should stay at the Filth with his mates. 2 different things.

Pretty stupid thing to say if the club is going to make him an offer.

"Yes Travis we desperately want you at the Blues. We think you are the missing link. But our presdient says you should re-sign at Collingwood"

What a seriously stupid comment

Took a very average list in 2002/3 to Grand Finals.

The list we have is much better.

As for Cloke, forget the rumours it is not happening.

Getting his full salary on top of what he will earn somewhere else next year will also help getting over this.

The Attention now should Turn to the players- It would be a Crime to see some of the Senior players Remain on the List next year... they need to be Moved on!!!!

Not nice to be sacked but things could be worse. Wish someone would give me $600k for next year to do nothing. I'd get over my sacking very quickly.

perhaps but since we got rid of a coach because he didn't get us to a cup, why should we care malthouse almost got there a number of times.

Ratten has been able to hold is head up high right through this saga. His performance today was first class. Maybe it's a case of nice guys finishing last? Or maybe he's too nice to be a senior coach? Or maybe his game plan just didn't cut it (I believe those last 2 to be the case).

Ratten leaves with dignity and respect, and hopefully still a strong relationship with the Club. IMHO, it was still the right decision.

Stressed that it was purely a personal opinion...

Nice to hear honesty. But the Club is bigger than the individual.

Then again, Cloke can keep his hairy ass away from Princes Park.

He has three cups. He has left every club he coached in a much better position than when he took over.

What you will see:

1. A very well drilled side with all players clearly knowing their roles.
2. Better development and use of the kids
3. The reserves will be closely aligned to the seniors and playing the same way
4. A game plan and structure to match any side.
5. Minimum standards that will need to be met by every player on the list.
