I think there needs to be a change and Ratts does need to go, however one thing...

I really feel sorry for Brett Ratten!

As a former captain, premiership winning player, best and fairest winner and as a genuine Carlton person, i think
the respect shown to him by many has just been disgusting.

99% of us agree that his coaching has not been up to scratch, but the way this is happening, the way our club has allowed
this week to become a circus and the disrespect to Ratts has been appalling.

IF it is his last game as coach and they already have this in mind, i prefer us knowing before Sunday and to allow the members, fans, etc to
give a proper send off to not just a coach who gave his very all, but a person who has bled for this club for close to 20 years!

Cuddles its pretty obvious his game on Sunday is his last.

Go to the game and show him the respect and say thank you to him in your own way.

Because pretty soon after he walks off and does his presser, the speculation will go into overdrive and no one will remember Brett Rattan.

I'm going to miss old Alfred E Neuman.

he will ask the club make good on the five hundred thousand to go with the two million he received for delivering us one elimination final win and hardly four game victories in a row.
pretty poor effort.
miss him as a player but not as a captain or coach.
its been over a decade for ratts and he has done very well from us. I hope dog brown pays the rest of his contract out.

I really can't believe this club and the INDIVIDUALS who drive it.
and the idolatry that surrounds it all.

ratts is a paid employee of the club. on big money delivering very little. he gets the chop for delivering very little. his history as a player is irrelevant.

he gets the opportunity to coach another afl side and win a flag for them if he is capable.

his time doing it here is up.

he is meant to be like fighter but Richardson will do his media work for him this week.

tough gig coaching.
got to hand it to successful coaches. they do it hard.

ratts? he made over three million doing pretty average work and will make sure the club pay him every cent. sticks will help with that.
I do hear people around the periphery me the club are being owed money though.

don't worry about ratts. he did very well out of us and he was average at best.

problem is average is the yard stick around here.

oh and it's a circus because it was wrong in the first place.
never should have been head coach.
never should have had extensions.
ultimately failure in football coaching means exactly this.

ratts welcome to the sacked coaches club.
many before you and many after you.

if he cannot handle it he was totally unprepared for coaching.

sticks should have known it would come to this one day.

its how a football club rolls.

a week ago walls was suggesting it was injuries.

today its skills recruiting and development.
tomorrow he might get to the very heart of the matter.

a club acting huge but is rather puny.

its wearing a blow up sumo costume to play with the big boys.

they just have to stop pretending the club is what it was. Malthouse and Cloke won't fix that. just as pagan didn't. Pratt didn't. Judd didn't.

its about restructuring from the ground up.

Very reliable poster on BF states Sticks won't be Prez next year. Club off field in a mess but can be turned around quickly. This poster has been on money before.

My kids are lost to Collingwood

How can you let that happen ?

My 4yr old son comes home from Kinda one day and starts telling me he likes
Collingwood.

Apparently a couple of the kids there, are Collingwood supporters and persisted telling him
that Carlton are "Shit". (and right now, maybe their right)

So I sat him down and told him to never say that "Collingwood" word in my house
again, because its a swear word and very very naughty to say it.

It took awhile to wear him down, but what did it in the end, was when I told him that
Chris Judd is going to be so upset with you if you like Collingwood.

I have photo of my son with Chris Judd which is now enlarged and hung up in his room !

My wife and sisters are all Collingwood. I'm just the mean Daddy who barracks for the pooh pooh Blues. Although last week he was singing the Carlton song with me in the car, a glimmer of hope!

Changes need to happen. Why feel sorry for Ratten ? We are not running a charity case. He had time and did not deliver. Time to move on.

This is the problem with the jobs for friends situation. When it comes down to the tough decisions they find it hard to make them.

Ratten surely wont step down and say to the club, 'oh dont pay me the final year of my contract, its ok'. So why feel sorry for him ?

By the way, wish the club would interview and seek the best coach rather than just buying the biggest name.

I dont buy into this unproven, proven crap. If you investigate properly, you will find someone suitable. Ie Sanderson, the Scott brothers etc.

According to a pretty reliable BF poster, it's done.
Just deciding on whether Ratts will coach on Sunday, or Gavin Brown will.

This is such an irksome comment. Why can't we feel for the man? Is there a crime against it? You can show empathy to a wide range of people - those who are paid and those who are not.

Waiting for someone to prove themselves is fraught with danger as the masses won't wait for the time it will take.

I dont mean not feel sorry for him as a Carlton great. Of course I followed him when we I was younger. As long emotion does not get in the way of the decisions required for us to be a good and successful club again.

Sorry worded this incorrectly. It just annoys me that people want him to stay because he was a Carlton player.

Of course I would have loved a Carlton champion to stay and get success with us, but he has had long enough and now we need to move into a new direction.

The fact that so many people feel for the guy, wish him no ill despite wanting him to go speaks volumes about his status as a Carlton great and general all round good bloke. Don't feel for guys like Clarkson etc when they get sacked - he's an asshole - but just because Ratts didn't get the job done and is gonna be replaced is no excuse to suddenly treat him with hostility like a murderer. Respect and compassion whilst understanding the need for change. $500,000 is a bit of money sure, but I bet Ratts would trade it all to not feel the embrassment, pressure, sadness and self-doubt that this perceived 'failure' on the national stage is going to bring him and his family.

We don't have to want him to stay, but we can be nice about it. Tireless servant of the Club, always had the best intentions and still bleeds navy blue. We owe him some courtesy for that if nothing else.
