Considering the club is doing full review where would you like to have some change?

Please note there are plenty of other topics about Ratt's future.

Personally I would like a change / improvement at goal kicking skills. Conversion has cost us plenty of games including the latest. Carlton dominated Gold Coast in terms of all the stats with the exception of conversion.

Also the injury management system should be up for review. Seems like some players are playing injured rather than recovering.

I'd like Brereton to come in and work with Levi, Rowe, Mitchell. (like he is doing at GWS)

Shane Rogers appears to have the right attitude when it comes to list management.

The only issue is that we have had others in the football department who think stockpiling and developing talented draftees is a bad thing.

Through numerous drafts we have traded picks away and left ourselves with only 3 or so picks in each draft while other clubs have more - they back themselves in to draft and develop the draftees.

Have a look at our 2009 draft.

Pick 12 - Lucas
Pick 43 - Davies
Pick 59 - Kerr

One player who has been on the list three years and hasn't had a game.

One who appears to lack the competitiveness or drive to keep going when their form is poor - who also lacks when it comes to kicking efficiency and on too many occasions puts in poor/soft efforts when the ball is in dispute.

One who doesn't appear to have a position at AFL level - again is a poor kick of the ball, doesn't address the deficiencies in our list (midfield/small defender/key forward), is undisciplined and has poor agility.

Have a look at Geelong's 2009 draft

Pick 17 - Menzel
Pick 28 - Duncan
Pick 40 - Christensen
Pick 42 - Vardy
Pick 56 - Cowan

They give themselves a chance by having more picks and they also draft players who put their heads over the ball and have at least adequate kicking techniques. There doesn't appear to be a major emphasis from our recruiting staff on kicking efficiency/technique - surely in today's game it is clear that kicking technique is a major factor.

We also have an issue when it comes to re-signing players to deals of 2 or more years when it is clear that they have major deficiencies in their game or have bodies which can't stand up to a full season - see Aaron Joseph's two year deal at the end of 2011. See Jarrad Waite's 3 year deal at the end of 2011. Such poor management - you would think there are amateurs in charge when it comes to major decisions about list management/contracts!!!!

EVERYBODY!

The whole club. Including the board.

I have lost all faith in Swann and Sticks, as well as Ratts.

The whole place needs a clean up. Problem is, those in charge are too big headed and egotistical to do so.

I have been meaning to post for awhile now, so here goes.

As many of you now know, up to this year, I had been involved with the club for over 20 years. In that time I have seen the values & culture of our club deteriorate.

My question is what has this board and current club administration done for Carlton. Compared to our main rivals we have seen our membership in decline. The new facilities were not a club initiative. If it wasn’t for the Pratts & Mathiesons we would be in worse financial shape. What is our debt at the moment?

We need change, and replacing the coach is not enough. As far as I’m concerned we need a complete new board and massive change to certain individuals in both the club & football departments. I agree with the following quote from Tony Shaw in yesterday’s HUN about the board’s decision on Ratts – “It’s going to be based on some ego-driven board members who want to cover their backside by getting someone with a massive name into the club to cover their backside over the next three years.”

I have a lot of time for Sticks. He has always treated individuals equally. When he sat in the coaches box he would always stop in to the stats box and acknowledge us and give us a quick pep talk. The only other official that ever did that was Grant Williams. But for a President, in my opinion he makes a good Vice-President. We need somebody with business nous. We need board members with financial, marketing and sponsorship know-how. We need to build up our latent membership in the same way that Collingwood, Hawthorn, Essendon* & now Richmond have done.

I also have a lot of respect for Ratts. Years ago David Parkin told me out of all the players he coached, Ratts would make the best coach. He re-stated this publically recently. Last year it seemed Ratts was receiving better support, especially with the changes to the assistant coaches. I have no idea what has happened this year. He seems to have bad relationships with quite a few key people in the club. I have been a non-vocal Ratten supporter but, for the future success of the club, I don’t think he can continue. I know a lot of you bag posters like Synbad and DocSherrin, but a lot of the time they are closer to the truth than you give them credit for.

For a long time now we have been devoid of leadership. For years I have seen no evidence of succession planning, other than this year where it is obvious Marc Murphy is being groomed for the captaincy. Who’s being groomed as the future President, CEO, Football Manager or Coach?

I mentioned culture earlier. I suppose this comes back to my treatment earlier this year (yes, I’m still bitter). I would have thought if somebody had put in the amount of time I had over a long period, they deserved more than “Sorry we haven’t got a job for you this year” and the response “You’ve got to be joking” when I enquired about Life Membership. Reward & recognition is an important foundation to the culture in any organisation. We have a culture of arrogance, we’re still living in the past. WE NEED MASSIVE CHANGE.

Just a quick update on my wife. She’s had her Op, finished Chemo and is two weeks into her Radiation treatment. She remains as positive as she can and the prognosis is very good.

That's wonderful news Freddy.

The club can GAGF after treating you so poorly after 20 years of service.

I have had the chance to attend a few games this year but have declined. I think I'm a bit like KB and I'm not interested in attending matches while certain individuals are stiil at the club. I'm also not interested in buying a membership. The way things are going there may be a chance I'll attend matches next year.

Who would you get rid off? Where is the main problem? At the top i.e. CEO, Board or middle management?

To start with the board. Self serving. Swanny is supposed to be a top CEO, but like I mentioned, if you take into account KPI's like membership and debt, what has been achieved over the last 5 years. Where does the buck stop.

Thanks Freddy with your insight and best wishes for your wife.

You, and the likes of Synbad & DocSherrin are the reason I like to come and visit TC.

Living 200km away from Carlton, my only form of inside info is from guys who I believe are in the know.
Over the years you get to know who is trolling and who are reliable sources.

And when you guys speak out about your opinions at what is going on at the club, and the info seems to be
the same across the board, then you know things aren't as rosy as they should be.

I sure do hope things turn around,,,,,quickly !

Corporates run promoter scores based on surveys to give some perspective around perceptions, I would love to know what ours would be for supporters, sponsors, football department and corporate staff, they are stats that have meaning.

Article from Damian Barratt on the AFL website. Quite interesting indeed.

Here is a bit that most of you will like:

Quote:
Surely the review that Kernahan keeps referring to needs to take in a very intensive critique of the 12-person Carlton board as its starting point. Surely.
