Mick is a very, very smart man. He will not talk to Carlton until Brett Ratten is sacked. The reason being, he knows that HE is Carlton's ONLY option for a Senior Coach. The Rest are all unproven (with the exception of Bomber Thompson).

Carlton's only 2 options are to 1) Keep Ratten 2) Sack Ratten and have Malthouse as Senior Coach.

Hence, Carlton sack's Ratten, Mick says, "No, I won't coach Carlton for less than $1.5m and your first born Child". The board will go away and realise this is their ONLY option.

Sad state of affairs... Mick is a VERY smart man.

Not advocating anyone here, but I think there's a few more than just those 2 options:

Eade and Williams are 2 that would say yes you'd think.

We would only go experienced coach and you would have to say MM would be the front runner but there are other options

if Roos is out of the running, I think I'd rather Eade than any of the other big name coaches.

Good tactician and man manager, would need some help with list management though!!!!

The difficulty clubs can have is balancing the need to be successful on field as well as increasing membership which in itself is also a race to the top.

MM is probably worth an extra 5000 members minimum. No matter what their credentials are both Eade and Williams are a mile behind.

Im not too sure MM has that sort of appeal Cimm, he has always come across as arrogant and spent a lot of time whinging when things did work out how he would have liked - blockbuster fatigue anyone!!!!!

Apart from pies supporters, I think the general consensus would be he is an arsehole with a high opinion of himself and a prima donna.

Where as Eade may not have as high a profile but less angst from those who dislike MM.

Anyway you may have a point with regard to membership, but I don't want the decision makers to be predominantly motivated by outward appearance, rather than who is best positioned to get the most out of the list and be a great teacher.

I think Eade will do that without the negatives an egotist like MM will bring.

Eade is a hack. Passed it. Pies gave him a job out of pity.

Quite possibly, I know myself that the thought of getting MM as coach does not fill me with enthusiasm and I would certainly not love him at my club.

At best I would see him as an ordeal that just must be endured.

I'd prefer Eade. He is due. Just missed with South and gave it a good shake with the dogs with limited resources. Would have learnt a bit this year and would be licking his lips at the idea of being at a club with good facilities and decent list. Surround him with great assistants and a good list management committee and watch him go.

Malthouse is risky business. Doing it for the wrong reasons. Caught everyone offguard with the press in 2010 but now will have to find a new trick (not that the press was his trick).
He said himself he is not sure he has the energy. Eddie pumping up his tyres after sacking him and telling the world he had issues. I smell a rat. Avoid.

I think the way MM is playing this out in the media - I would tell him to go take a running jump

Would prefer Ratten to stay than getting MM and that's even after saturdays demoralisng loss

Agree!!

Eade is also a good communicator and media savvy which are obvious plusses.

Still I think we will get MM, just cos that's our MO. :donk:

Just for the record too, Eade was coached by Parkin in the 78 Hawks premiership side so he would get Parko's vote I guess!!!!

Mark Maclure basically said that MM has the gig if he wants it

He said they wouldn't go for a young coach

He said they would stick with Ratten if MM didn't want the job

He said what a good job Lyon had done with Freo who were a rabble

No one likes Pricky thats beside the point- in fact most people hate him - similar reasons why clarkson is a prick but will probably coach his second flag in a couple of weeks - we need a single minded bastard who is tactically astute has good people around him and can build a winning culture and get every bit of talent out of our list and is entirely ruthless and will stop at nothing to ensure that we win

Sheedy - dirty prick of a player. Scheming, conniving prick of a coach.

Malthouse - arrogant and prickly and domineering. Hard to like at just about any level.

Matthews - dirty, nasty player. Grumpy, prickly hard bastard as a coach.

Worsfold - dirty, nasty player. Uncompromising personality.

Clarkson - sniper. Angry man, borderline psychopath.

While we've been in the wilderness since 1995, these people have been winning flags. They haven't been winning hearts. They're uncompromising bastards, and I suspect not all that likeable while they're on the job.

Personally I couldn't give a shit how warm and fuzzy our senior coach is. I just want him to lead this club to a Premiership. And I suspect that there's a fair negative correlation between Nice and Successful in this game.

And this may be naive and simplistic, but if I was a player who chose when to go and thought he could skate through his whole career without getting his hair mussed up, I'd be a lot more comfortable fronting up to a coach like Ratten than I would anyone in the group above.

Who was that guy who coached our last flag again? You forgot to mention his name.
