Sad state of affairs... Mick is a VERY smart man.

What about Mark Williams?
If we offered him the senior job don't you think he'd pack his bags and move to Melb?

Let's not be as deluded as Essendon* supporters, but coaching Carlton at the moment would be a pretty big job opportunity....

... It just depends on what admin & recruitment systems are in place to support such a high pressure coaching role...

Just on that topic, re MM says being out of the game for 2 years is too long.

In 2014, how long would've Roos been out of it for? Does that add more risk? I think maybe yes. Yes it does.

I'd prefer Paul Roos coaching by telephone from Sydney to getting Mick Malthouse.

MM translator: "I'm keen as mustard, I've just got to talk the missus around."

I reckon Mick has missed coaching so much and is so desperate for another shot he'd damn near pay us for the privilege.

There's got to be more than just the hiring of a new coach though, clean out the "class of '95" for a start.

Trying to take a logical approach here:

Approx 8 weeks ago we conceded that our Top 4 aspirations were out of the question.

We then said that despite injuries that a finals spot was still our 'pass mark'.

Now it looks like we'll be finishing either 10th or 11th depending on this weekends result.

To me that is a fail and therefore ramifications follow. Coach is always the scapegoat and I dont think this will be any different.

Losing Carrazo, Murph, Waite etc did hurt but every club at this time of year can say likewise.

I think Ratts is gone.

My only slight on Williams is that he left his team in a poor state.

Roos and Mick didn't.

Roos is my first option. If he wants to coach again, the Hawks, Bombers and Magpies are not hiring. There is only one job open for him in the next 2-3 years and that is Carlton right now.

Not advocating anyone here, but I think there's a few more than just those 2 options:

Eade and Williams are 2 that would say yes you'd think.

We would only go experienced coach and you would have to say MM would be the front runner but there are other options

if Roos is out of the running, I think I'd rather Eade than any of the other big name coaches.

Good tactician and man manager, would need some help with list management though!!!!

Hypothetically.

How would you respond if the review came back and honoured Ratten's contract?

Maybe replaced a line coach or two and upgraded the fitness & strength department, but essentially Ratten was kept?

What would the repercussions for the club be, if any?

Been hoping this was just pure speculation and wouldn’t actually come to fruition, especially Cloke.

Have a horrible, horrible feeling in my stomach now that it may actually happen. If we pay Cloke $5M on a five year contract then we deserve every consequence that will come our way.

The difficulty clubs can have is balancing the need to be successful on field as well as increasing membership which in itself is also a race to the top.

MM is probably worth an extra 5000 members minimum. No matter what their credentials are both Eade and Williams are a mile behind.
