A quote from Malthouse in the HUN today........
Quote:
"You've got to have the energy. Have I got the energy? I suppose I think I've got the energy," Malthouse said. "I thoroughly enjoyed coaching. The good and the bad.

Hmmmm.......... 'I suppose i think............" - Geez, don't sound too hungry for the job Mick.

And this
Quote:
Carlton would need to spend in the region of $1 million a season for at least three years to lure Malthouse.

Umm.......... WHY?
What other clubs are we competing against to get Mick??? Port Adelaide??? Pfft, doubt it! GWS??? Hardly.

If Malthouse really is that desperate to coach then we're in the "Box Seat?" to get him........ why do we need to pay 'over the odds' for him?

At this point I'd say anything other than no means yes for Malthouse

It's smart business on his part to be vague about his interest in coaching again - it improves his negotiation position by letting interested clubs know he'll walk away unless the deal is right

So Mick doesn't want to dance on Ratten's grave, but is playing Kernahan beautifully...

Next year or never: Mick

I dont know, just tune into the highlights reel for last Saturday Nights game for all the mirth and frolics that you will need for some side splitting laughter.

Seriously. Watch the replay of the 1st qtr. Turn the volume down low. Download 28 minutes of Benny Hill music playing on a loop.

Add said audio accompaniment to afore mentioned game highlights. Pour yourself a straight vodka, find your favourite chair.

Don't tell me that's no entertaining.

Do it.

If he's reasoning is sincere, it's valid. imo.

He's a proud guy, and he hates losing. 1 year out of the game, but spending it as a tv analyst, refreshes him, but keeps him thinking and relevant. Maybe even makes him better, as it's easier to see things from afar.

Two years out of the game, cooks his chook.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the content, it's the timing of the delivery.

Who is more desperate get Malthouse to Visy Park: Carlton FC or Mick?

He did say this earlier in the year as well though.

Maybe he's read he TC boards and thinks Roos might gazump him in 2014.

Firstly, a million a year isn't "over the odds" for Mick Malthouse. For comparison, Brett Ratten is reportedly on $550K this year. When you look at their respective experience, credentials and track record, that's about right.

And we're not competing with Port Adelaide. We're competing with the option of NOT taking on the senior coaching job at a club that is demanding success, with all the pressure that comes with. You have to make it worth people's while. For goodness sake, we gave Ratten over half a million to do it, and he's achieved nothing of note as a coach.

Secondly, if you heard the interview in which MM delivered those quotes, you'd know he didn't sound uncertain at all. He sounded like a man who was answering a direct question from Caroline Wilson, in a manner that didn't sound like he was spruiking himself. All through this, he's been clear that until a position is made available, he doesn't want to APPEAR as if he's a coach-in-waiting.

Just on that topic, re MM says being out of the game for 2 years is too long.

In 2014, how long would've Roos been out of it for? Does that add more risk? I think maybe yes. Yes it does.

No thanks ! We already have Richardson who is highly respected and and a 'coach in waiting' doing that role and even that hasn't helped.

Mick is a very, very smart man. He will not talk to Carlton until Brett Ratten is sacked. The reason being, he knows that HE is Carlton's ONLY option for a Senior Coach. The Rest are all unproven (with the exception of Bomber Thompson).

Carlton's only 2 options are to 1) Keep Ratten 2) Sack Ratten and have Malthouse as Senior Coach.

Hence, Carlton sack's Ratten, Mick says, "No, I won't coach Carlton for less than $1.5m and your first born Child". The board will go away and realise this is their ONLY option.

Sad state of affairs... Mick is a VERY smart man.
