Just an observation from the outside looking in...

Seems to me the coach's in the top 8 have one thing in common: they have have no interest in becoming best friends with any of their players. They are hard task masters that are absolutely driven to get the best out of their team no matter what. It's all "my way or the highway" with their approach. Can you imagine the Scott boys, Lyon, Clarkson, Longmire or Worsfold caring less if Thornton got the sulks or Lucas thought is was all too hard - they would be steam rolled...

Look at the bottom end coaches...

Ratten, McCarthy, Primus, Hird, McKenna, Neeld - all probably very nice blokes who all have the task of building killer attitude between the ears of young Gen Ys. Let's put our arms around them and shed a tear with they lose. Let's talk about big picture and pick them again in the same positions next week...

So, what do we need in the development of our team??

A lot of people looking to appoint a coach for the now, Malthouse, rather than looking further into the future. I think we're a fair way off and the only way i can see us progressing is with a comprehensive 5 year plan. Only one man is capable of delivering that to us, Terry Wallace. Get it done Sticks!!

Not sure how you can make an observation about a players relationship with the coach being a poster on the outside.

I would hardly call Neeld someone who is warm and fuzzy with his players.

But that's just my observation.

What makes you think Ratten is any more accommodating than any of the top 8 coaches?
They've all had disappointing losses as well. In fact North Melbourne (who have had the best run of injury this year) lost to Hawthorn by 115 points. 115 points!
Did Brad Scott get the best out of his players that day?

You're right about one thing: Choco is the hungriest coach around, just take a look at his gut. No to Choco, can't afford the catering bill.

Interesting point (although Malthouse's relationship with his players by the end was as tight as can be it seems). When you look at the most successful coach in the EPL, I suspect there is more fear towards him from his players than anything else. Not sure Ferguson has a warm relationship with any of them (maybe Giggs if he bows to respect for your elders). When Chelsea won the title, Mourinho went around shaking the hands of his players after they won on the last day to clinch the Championship. Not one of the players looked him in the eye. There was no relationship there whatsoever.

I don't know whether one was is better than the other, but it is interesting to consider that perhaps Ratten is too chummy with his players, and maybe the players are too comfortable? An uninformed observation from the outside of course.

We must have a significant coach who is innovative courageous and inspiringly honest this can only be chosen by professional football people led by a competent President and Board.
