Grumpiness subsided enough to be able to make a statement....

Carlton are mentally weak...choken when we could go top of the ladder, choked when we had a chance to scrape into finals.

it is time for Kernahan and Ratten to piss right off and for a handful of inept players to go with them...oh and take the FWD coach too, one useless knob, John Barker, shit player, shit coach

Don't forget the very ordinary Mark Riley...

last night against GC was one of the most shameful performances ever by a Carlton team.

Reminds me of the following games

1. 85 Elimination final
2. 88 Prelim against Melbourne
3. 94 Semi final against Geelong

The outcome from these games was rebuilding of attitudes.

Its time to let Ratts go and bring someone who can be tougher with the playing group.

Do you demand the same players play this week against St. Kilda or do you drop those who werent prepared to play against GC?

e.g. Armfield, Simpson, Gibson, Scotland, Gibbs, Betts, Garlett?

Sakc Gibson.

Every single time they are in a position to step forward they go backwards at a rate of knots
They get ahead of themselves they are flat track bullies and the moment some pressures them they are gone

Ratten will not survive this and nor should he but who ever comes in really needs to move some of the mentally weak players on - but unfortunately for who ever takes over most are signed up

Cannot think of a worse loss in the time I have been following this club you just cannot make excuses for it no matter how you look at it

If the club doesn't take a serious look at itself it will never move on

Look at the injuries and players missing from GC tonight. Something like 13 of their best 22. :?

Good stat, but GC are full of the best young talent in the country, so its not like they haven't got much depth. GC played quite good and came out of the gates on fire and had a sniff. Ball bounced their way the whole game and made the most of their opportunities.

If Carlton kicked straight they would of won by 30-60pts tonite. Waite / Casabolt 2 goals out of 9 shots!!

Goal kicking coach please. flower academy needed!

ball bouncing their way, kicking straight etc. straw clutching till the bitter end G

Seems to be two schools of thought amongst posters:

1. Blame the coach and coaching staff
2. Blame the attitude of the playing group.

We have major problems on both counts.

During this season how many times have certain players ( Gibbs and Garlett are prime examples), played well below the standard that is acceptable? Doesn't seem to matter to them too much though. Still play next week.Still get paid more than 3 times the average wage! Still go home and tweet crap! Last night is another example of players dishing up games where they look disinterested and just expect others to do the work. But we all know (as they do) that they will still get a game next week. Gibbs et al are taking the piss in my opinion.

Don't seem to give too much of a damn when we lose so badly do some of these guys? Seeing them sitting in the rooms afterwards looking all dejected shits me to tears. The time to give a shit was in the two hours preceding this. Hrden the f$#k up and show it on the field!

So how does such a culture/attitude flourish? The coaching staff allow it. The board allow it.

Players who under-perform don't get dropped, except for the few scapegoats.

We will get back on track when we have a coach prepared to "send a message" to big name players and send them back to the two's. Gibbs and Garlett? When will these guys be given a message. In my opinion they both have what it takes but are just not showing it except in short glimpses over the year.

Could not be more disappointed in the CFC right now.

Yep. Like the Black Knight in Holy Grail. "It's just a flesh wound " (after having his arms chopped off).

Thanks for an example on how you'd like to see us use analogies in future Moshe. Also thanks for posting something which (somewhat) presents your own opinion and isn't just you buzzing around others' posts picking out typos or peceived figurative flaws according to Moshe's Manual of Style.

And you're wrong, I don't deserve this. None of us do.

You've got a real touch of the Ballantynes about you lately...how's that for an analogy?

Wish they'd drop Gibbs for a change instead of someone who gives a @#$%&! like Thornton.

3 goals 12 behinds from Casbolt, Waite & Betts was the reason we lost.

Still shocked. Simply can't believe what we dished up. The players disgraced our club last night. They deserve harsh criticism too.

I wonder what Chris Judd was thinking sitting next to ratts in the presser knowing he just contributed to his demise? Said the right words but surely the actions before that carry more weight.

Ratts won't survive but once again our flaky, mentally soft players will largely get away scot free. I couldn't sleep last night I was that depressed. Wonder if they even care?

Well said MPH78.

Here's a link to the presser for those that have missed it...

Chicken or Egg argument...

Is the coach to blame? Are the Players to blame?

Are they players mentally soft? Isn't the coach responsible for the players?

In the end, if Telstra doesn't perform, you don't sack the guys that work the pits... you move the leaders on.

Carlton looked as though the last time they watched Gold Coast play was when they played them 511 days ago.
Over the last few days all we've heard from Ratten is Ablett this and Ablett that as though Gold Coast only have one player, and sure enough when we took to the field Ablett was the only Gold Coast player whose opponent bothered to go near.

We showed Gold Coast no respect, just turned up expecting to win and we got what we deserved.

The link b/w player attitudes and coaching performance is that the coach must be able to get the best out of the players.
While I'm not as convinced as some that MM is the panacea, he at the least is a master at player psychology. Either he'll get their attitudes right or they'll go.

However, I really hope we don't go for Cloke. Happy to go after Caddy but Cloke will soak up too much of the salary cap for a marginal improvement. Must focus on Casboult's kicking and on directing traffic closer to the V rather than the pockets.

Gibbs must be challenged to become the tough inside mid he was in SA. Hodge plays the same quarterback role but does so with the aggression and presence of a hard nut mid rather than a outside receiver going at 70%.

but theyre playing for ratts... remember???

look players dont play for their coach... thats such a silly way of putting it.

players are prograammed by the coach and play accordng to how theyre conditioned and feeling.

Ratten is quilty of putting together a list of flaky players.

He wont survive this but lets hope the list gets a good shake up as this list has demons and I can't see any coach overcoming them.

Our goal kicking won't all of a sudden be deadly under a new coach and nor will our field kicking.

Our mental weakness will always be there when the pressure is on until a new generation come through providing they have some good leaders to look to. Who they are i dont know? That is where we have to trade well and ship of good players for good leaders.

Last night was terrible and the cracks that lay in our playing list all came to the surface at once.

Yuck !

My comments about the players is separate to the coaching debate.

I could of been coaching yesterday and there would still be no excuse to lose to a half strength gc side. Not with the side we had on the park.

To attribute the players entire performance to how they are programmed by the coach is too much of a copout to the players for mine.

Senior experienced afl players should perform to pre requisite standards regardless of the coach. If they don't, says more about them than the coach IMHO.
