What bit about the era of chequebook signings and recruting Galt not Quinlan... am i wrong on??

Parkin didn't invent chequebook signings. Carlton reinvented them with Barassi.
Quinlan was bandied around by Footscray and there was very little interest as he was seen as very soft.
He changed to full forward at Fitzroy and became a star.
Galt was cheaper and a risk but little cost.
interesting topic given the debate around Cloke at the moment.

No .... Parkin didnt invent it he was a beneficiary of it...the chequebook era....greatest ear in our history the chequebook.. as far as most of us are concerned...

And still... we chose to get Galt.........................cheap......

laughable isnt it???

My issue with Synbad's posts on Parkin is;
If there is a review of the coach's position at the end of the year, and i hope there is;
i would love the input of someone like Parkin as well as others inside the club.
He has coached at 3 clubs, including ours. He's coached premierships, he's still involved in watching the game regularly and he's involved with other coaches.
He has passion and integrity and i would trust his judgement to be reasoned and rational.
If the coaching position was vacant now, i would want him on the panel.
He wouldn't support or dismiss Ratten through stubbornness unlike some.

but they rarely fail you, just don't give you a's

Whoever reviews, I want them prepared to hand out fails.

Parkin would never give rats a fail, so he is the wrong bloke.

What i said was;
I'd like Parkin's input on Ratten.
He knows Ratten. He knows the club.
I wouldn't take his opinion as fact.
I might give it a little more weight than Synbad's :wink:

I'd like him on the panel to hire a coach if the position was vacant.

For those trying to take Synbad down, it's worth noting that he is both well connected and a lover of our club.

Whilst I may disagree with some of what he writes, I don't ever question his devotion to our club.

There is no taking down. We wouldn't be debating if we ALL were'nt devoted to our club.

Maybe, but Groundhog Day can only last for so long.
