How bad though was the commentary? They seemed to be looking for a 50m rather than acknowledging how good a steal it was.

That was my impression too, that rather than celebrate Eddie's speed and reflexes, they were trying to claim a 50m, even though Bellend had clearly played on.

You're right, if it was Cyril, Bowater Scott would have to put on extra shifts at the Kleenex factory for all the media fapping.

I ask because that seemed to be the attitude of the commentators. The idiot did a soft handball, Betts read it and intercepted. Great play. The commentators though were very underwhelming in their assessment. In fact IIRC one of them even described it as "lucky".

It was "lucky" in the sense that Eddie was in the right place at the right time for the gift from the Bellend. I'm sure the fact that he saw it, read it right, and had the reflexes to grab it going full tilt has nothing to do with it.

Just watched it in slow motion and betts had not crossed the mark until ball struck Bellends fist. No fifty.

There was also a bomber within 5m which overides betts being there also if bombers think the ump got it wrong that way.
