Better personnel available plus accidentally unearthing McInnes, Casboult and Bell has made a world of difference.

If those guys were fit earlier in the season and not injured would it still be an accident?

Yes, according to Brett Ratten this morning when asked about Bell, Casboult, McInnes, White:

"Gee, as a Match committee you sit back and wonder if we didn't cop those injuries, at the end of the year how would we be able to make an assessment of some of those boys?"

That's straight from the horse's mouth: no injuries and guys like Bell, Casboult, McInnes and White wind up rotting in the VFL because there's no proper system to rejuvenate the senior team with younger guys. Amateur hour.

I don't think it is that unreasonable to in effect say that they would not have had as good a look at those players without injuries. I think that if we didn't get the injuries and we kept winning, there would be less opportunities for those players other than to fill in for a break. That would happen in any side.

But it is also a fact that bolt and white were injured until a few weeks ago anyway. Bolt would have got a game once fit no matter what happened I reckon, if he had good form.

Without injuries it would have been impossible to play Bell in the seniors.

I would say that JohnM by now would be first to say that he didnt think through his post and his way of thinking in regards to Ratts comments in the media this morn.

Time to get on with celebrating thrashing the bombers.

Just got home. Interesting listening to some very heated conversations on the train. And they were Carlton people! :yikes: The MM/Ratten debate is everywhere.

Seriously, probably the most enjoyable game I have been to since last years finals.

Was very confident before the game but didn't expect that. IMO it was the best line up we have put on the park all year. Better balanced and we now have some body size around the park. Bell, McLean (WOW), Duigan, Touhy make a HUGE difference.

Judd was awesome. With him in it releases others. Murphy enjoyed space as did Gibbs. Two weeks in row I would of had Gibbs in our best 3. Carrots was Carrots.

The dominance of our midfield got the ball in to a very mobile forward line. Give Waite, Walker, Betts and Garlett space and will cut anyone up. Liked the way our mids ran through the forward line.

The inclusion of Casboult has made us better for many reasons. He is a strong body who creates a contest, he straightens us up and showed that playing a ruckman as a key forward does NOT work. He also has a lot of improvement in him.

Kids, every side should have kids. The enthusiasm, point of difference they bring to a side is huge. This will also push Lucas, Mitchell, McCarthy, Buckley, Dale, ROK etc to want to be a part.

I liked the way our defence worked together. White is a natural FB. IMO he and Jamo fight for the one spot. Cant play both. McInnes was good again. His work off the ball in terms of body work, shepherding, getting goal side etc is top class. The assistance of Duigan, Touhy & Scotland cannot be underestimated. They all worked well as a defensive team.

Essendon* after about 15 minutes were gone. Something is not right there. I have watched them over the past couple of months and they are very poor. Take Watson out and they have NO midfield.

Anyway, just an enjoyable day. These days I actually enjoy beating Essendon* than Collingwood. Who'd of thought!

They really don't deserve Jobe. Watching him today reminded me of the 60s and 70s watching guys like John Murphy carrying Fitzroy or Bob Skilton carrying South. Jobe is a gun. With absolutely no support today he still played fairly well, although I thought he got some soft free kicks that others weren't getting and his disposal was a bit off.

But I'd still take him any day of the week. I hope Bell develops into a similar player.

Not at all.

I'm still dismayed that Ratten openly admitted that without injuries, the match committee wouldn't be able to make a proper call on the likes of Casboult. That smacks of amateurism, and it worries me. But this is the aftermatch thread, not the Ratten is out of his depth and the football department is second-rate thread, so I'll leave it alone to watch the replay with a nice glass of wine and a dozen fish fingers (don't ask... the kids are demanding them for some bizarre reason).

Even a better game of umpiring than the Carlton v Richmond game, with just a tad more football thrown in. 57 free kicks all up, smashing that game by 8.

Just home as well, a little later than usual because of a detour via the Members Dining Room Bar. Couldn't let a win like that go without a couple of toasts and a singalong.

White and Casboult, absolutely great stuff fellas.

Everyone else including the usual suspects all great.

Surprised how bad bombers were. Really shit. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

If you cant enjoy a game like today youll never enjoy anything.

Who is to say that if they weren't injured at the start of the year their VFL form wouldn't have demanded a game in the AFL?

The spin doctors who are currently just pulling a few 3" nails out of the coffin they had nailed shut.

Yibbida here's the irony of the maybe, couldbe, shouldbe mentality.

If we don't get the injuries and we win more games and finish top 4 everyone (mostly) are happy. The kids get some continuity in the VFL and come on at a more sedate pace, just like the all days.

If we don't get injuries and we lose the games, players would get dropped and new lads bought in to play as warranted. The 'What ifs and Maybe's are endless.

Put your hand up who had McInness, Casbolt and Bell in our best 25, 6 weeks ago....................................I thought not.

Regards Cazzesman

Easy to criticize players when you havent seen them play.....................Reckon people need to get to the grassroots footy in the VFL and they will get a better idea of how we are travelling.Bell,Mc.Inness and Casboult have not been blowing the lights out in the VFL.Thats not the idea of the exercise imho. Its to show the traits that will succeed in the AFL...............and anyone with half a brain could tell you that all three had traits that would stand them in good stead in the AFL...........eg.Mc.Inness showed icecool poise right from day one.Levi's agility from day one was very suss. But what was very obvious was his size and strength. And his willingnes to throw his weight around.Even when three deep Levi would launch himself at the ball and badluck to anyone that got in his way.Tommy had a great physique which was so obvious and a thirst for the ball or man.Had the beast look about him.Reckon looked a million dollars from day one myself...............and a little pat on the back to yourself Cazz and WH.Great gets in my book...............anyhow folks,do yourself a favour and have a bopeek at the magoos where it all starts.
