It's been a terribly disappointing year in so many respects, and reading a few of the threads on the front page here over the last 24 hours has been tough to take. The club seems to be in quicksand.

Regardless of how any player feels about Ratten, who is picked, who isn't picked etc, you would hope these players understand one thing. As a playing group they were humiliated by Essendon* in Rd 4, and they've been paying for it ever since. They copped a smack in the mouth and didn't have it in them to respond. If they're not walking off the park tomorrow afternoon able to look each other in the eye with the knowledge they haven't left one ounce of effort behind, they've got a lot more problems than who the coach is or any other crap behind the scenes.

If these players want to take a bit of ownership over how they are viewed, tomorrow would be a good place to start. The weather is going to be diabolical, and 90% effort will get found out quickly in those packs. We know Essendon* will be tackling to hurt and we need the same mindset.

Who knows (and some here obviously would like us to believe they do), the coach might already be gone. But these players own their effort and they own their reputations. If they've got any pride among themselves as a group, they won't leave anything behind tomorrow win lose or draw. Doing anything less indicts them as much as anyone else at the club.

Just to clear up an argument, anyone remember if Carrazzo got a free kick for that?

Free kick but advantage given.

The fact Essendon* promoted it on their youtube page shows how much of a bunch of *@#!$! !@#*$!# $#$!$# !#$#! !!$@$s they are.

Very little chance of that.
This is a statement game.

Yeah but what is that statement going to be???

You talk dirty and play rough and we'll get all upset and push you over ....
or
No matter what you do we're going to run straight at ball and put our head over and if you're in the way - bad luck.

I know which one I want to see.

Big Kev, I want to see 100% commitment to the contest.

This group dishonored the jumper the way they lay down last time we were up against this mob.

There's clearly a lot of external noise around them at the moment. Once they cross the line tomorrow they need to own the performance they put in. If our pygmy-like backline results in plenty of set shot for goals to Essendon* and the scoreboard says we lose, not much they can do about that. They have to own their own contest at the ball and when the opportunity presents itself to legally impose themselves physically on Essendon*, that's something else they can own. They need to tackle to hurt. Hard clean tackles which physically make a statement.

That goes for players 1 through to 22. Jeffy needs to get two hands to the contest, not a half hearted one hand with his body moving the other way.

Well they can put it up on their Youtube channel but they can't erase Mick's commentary.

"It's a very rank tackle"

I hear that we've been shown the Carrazzo incident during the course of the week and that the juices are flowing.
The term targets has also been used, so we'll see how that pans out.

It may not be what we want to hear but Ratten and co. have really revved the boys up this week and they're all ready to go.

Interesting that we are favourites with the bookies however most "expert" tipsters are picking Essendon*.

Personally I think the Bombers should be going in as favourites.

If I had to tip without bias I can understand tipping the Bombers. The reason is our back line looks horrible and there's a ? over Betts fitness.

Even with the inclusion of Judd, if Essendon* get the ball into their marking forwards, then unless it is diabolical weather they would probably have the edge.

I REALLY hope we can win this one.

I don't understand this, why wouldn't we want to hear this?

Because we've been told to hunt and some may sooner we just played nice football.
Have no idea how the weeks focus will materialize tomorrow, but I wouldn't be surprised for a report or two to go down.

As long as they aren't stupid about it, I agree 100%. They should be fired up. This game will say a lot about them as a group. What are they prepared to accept? We'll find out tomorrow.

But who will Bruce blow his load over then????

It made me sick listening to him anytime Gumbleton went near it the other week.

We got bashed and embarrassed last time around and I fear we may overreact and forget about the ball tomorrow.

I hope Ratten and co ain't using incidents from rd4 to motivate the group... couldn't care less if they win the physical battle... a 10 goal (any margin really) win and them out of the 8 will do me just fine.

... or.

We could bash them and win by 5 goals.

That sounds perfect.

We have a pretty poor record of backing it up when we talk tough during the week.
