So assuming we go with an experienced coach in Malthouse what are people's expectations? Does he get a year to rebuild or do we expect immediate results? Personally I'd be expecting similar results in 2013 to what we had in 2011 as long as we have reasonable health. With another year's development in the younger blokes and presumably an easier draw due to our poor results this year I think that's a reasonable expectation.

If we sack Ratten for Malthouse, I would expect a Premiership in 2013.

Thats ok if you expected a premiership over the last 3 years too.

I expected that we would go very close this year.
I didn't expect that we could have an even worse injury run than last year.

It's the Rumsfeld thing and "known knowns" don't look so bad considering the "unknown unknowns" that may be given the job by Sticks and Co if it's an open competition.

Understandable - this is what Elliott & his cronies together with 10 years of !@#$% has done to supporters - shattered confidence almost beyond repair

I'd hate to think Elliott is still in the background working Sticks........

I'd actually be happy if he was. I'd hate to think Sticks was that bad all on his own!!

My attacks on Sticks and Ratts are due to their history as an administrator and as a coach.
Theyre shithouse!!!
One is a reluctant president.. yeah reluctant to FO!!!
and the other will never get a job at another club as a coach.

Whats there to support???

Mediocrity???

Look.. if they ran Collingwood or Port Melbourne.. or Subiaco Football clubs.. i wouldnt give a Ratts....

But unfortunately they impact on my life by running th e club i support into the ground.

As they affect my life and enjoyment.. and my escape... i feel better by wanting them to go.. and expressing that.

Youre not even sure about them,,,,,,

Noone can cataguorically say theyre fantastic.. and yet theyre here .. year after year... after year... after year..... and its always next year next year next year next year!!!
Enough with the mediocre and lets bring this club back into line as a power club.

These two are not the answer.. but they think they are....!!!

Why arent you convinced with Ratten 5 plus years on????
why arent you c onvinced that Sticks has been around far too long and as a reluctant president.. he has only shown he isnt reluctant to leave...

His problem is.. whats he do after this???

28 years around the club whats he do????

Thats how small minded he is.....

Were stcuk with him cos he wont know what to do with himself....

Selfish of him isnt it???

Great post Synners
Exactly how I feel
I only watch Carlton to see how kids like McInnes are going.

We are [REDACTED] because we have a dysfunctional footy club from the top.

So we are rooted until the broom comes out.

Its like where I work
The people at the top are incompetent, in denial and punching above their weight division
A bunch of empty suits
And just about everyone below them are angry, disheartened etc
But the people at the top dont give a shit about this and continue to rule a sinking ship.
Its pretty simple

Ratts aint good enough.
Wouldnt get an AFL senior job anywhere else.

So you sack him
Put the job out there for anyone interested
That includes MM
Then you have an independent group of people who know what it takes to be a successful AFL senior coach to pick our next coach with a thorough process.

The good thing is that people like me and psych and sinners can disagree with people like Cazz or Brad or whoever till the cows come home.
Ultimately history will prove who is right.
This years events have gone a long way in proving some things

Just like Sinners it annoys me that people are @#$%&! this club up and I cant enjoy watching my team and get away from the shit at my work because IMO the two have so many negative similarities.

As they say In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king

I am really against the recruiting of Cloke for a number of reasons.

He isn't that good or consistent enough.
He will be too expensive
He is not a popular teammate
He is a Cloke
He would probably stop us from picking up some other valuable players
It would stop us playing Mitchell, Casboult, Henderson, Rowe & Waite
We need mids not KPP

Now I think this is something the majority of us do agree on!

I dont want Cloke but disagree about not needing KPPs.
We are desperate for a quality young key forward. The ones we have cant get on the park with any consistency. I'd target a key forward and midfielder with our first 2 picks and then a rookie ruckman. Maybe a Sam Gilmore or similar.

Best man wins.

Who picks the coach anyway? Mathison, Pratt, Sticks.
Must be done properly and aboveboard.
Best practise or nothing.

Does Malthouse want the job? Lets see how much he wants it.
Stand in the queue....he should be invited to dine.

Don't assume that best practice isn't being followed.

Also, what do people mean by aboveboard/transparent etc? Surely it shouldn't be done in public or under the media spotlight?

When the best processes are followed only those who need to know do know - perhaps the best process is being followed

PRECISELY !

I agree. Although, unlike others, I can understand the interest in Cloke. Other than salary cap space, I can't see what it costs us. And what we gain is fairly obvious. I think it would actually make it easier for young key position prospects to have someone else taking the heat.

So Ratts said they need to be realistic in their review of our year. Wow. They are already making excuses for the year and a reason for him to stay on next year.

We all know the injuries hurt us this year, but what we cant cop is some players still dont know what their roles are, some players have gone backwards and our structures are still crap.

If Ratten stays next year, we are stuffed.

I read this as Ratten's argument to keep his job. He's putting it out there to reduce public pressure on him. I am sure that Sticks and co. have privately assured him that they will consider injuries in evaluating his role. Then they will hire Mick.

I suppose this is as good or bad a place as any to put this.

http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/blogs/blunt-instrument/why-ill-be-kicking-you-off-this-blog-20120808-23u7p.html

Interesting comments IMO and they apply to all blogs and forums.
