I can't understand it. Barker or whoever is the forwards coach, is yelling at these guys to get up the field onto the flanks and wings.

It's football suicide. It's dumb. It must mean it's Carlton.

Would we still win the ball if they were not up the field?

At the start of the year we were all complaining that we were outnumbered at the stoppages as teams crowded our space. I was pleading for us to match them one for one and to engage in an arm wrestle as continueing the way we were was not getting us anywhere. So i personally cannot complain when we do eventually get a break only to have noone further afield.

We just have to get better at what we do. Win the ball. Spread harder. Move the ball at a pace that is quick but not too quick. Make sure we hold possession and use angles that scramble their defensive mechanisms and allow us time to get numbers forward of the ball.

Back on the 17th April I was having a meeting at a coffee shop and the Lions brains trust had commandeered an entire section of the venue in a bit of a crisis meeting. Voss, Brown, Merrett, Black were all there plus others I didn't know. We had just come off the smashing of Collingwood and the Lions had just been thumped by Fremantle on the back of our 91 point demolition of them at the Gabba.

Now with only four games to go we're 11th and only two games ahead of them. Unthinkable back then.

For months/years our structures have been terrible. HOw many times have we all been anoyed about breaking of half back with no one to kick to, other teams having a loose man at the back of a clearance and I am over us kicking it into the forward line to non dangerous spots i.e pockets and 2 metres out from goal. I am also struggling to remember when we actually hit up a leading forward target 30-40 metres out from goal, dead in front or 45 degrees, more than once a game.

I understand injuries can ruin a teams cohesion but it was the basic stuff that the Swans do that killed us. They spread quickly and gut run. Some of their skills by foot and hands were also exquisiste on the weekend. They also block fopr each other to protect a mate rather than skirting the contest hoping for a cheap touch. 20 metre passes from us is more often than not a half volley to the receiver and we don't spread quickly or gut run which inevitably leaves us doing a 40 metre bomb up the line which we hope goes out so we can set up again.

I'm not a player or coach bagger but is just seems we persevere with a plan that is not effective. When you see the same issues week in and week out and nothing changes you have to start to think it is a coaching thing or are the players just not prepared to do the hard work.

Please no. This doesn't work. Kreuzer is about the worst forward in the game, and warnock the second worst.

Casboult shows us how important a KPF actually is. He got plenty of the ball and created contests. Meanwhile when Kreuzer was forward, he didn't get anywhere near the ball.

And you know when he does, he's not taking a contested mark like Cas can.

This is the frustrating part of this season, and imo Ratten's biggest achilles. List management. He doesn't seem to know where to play guys, he persists playing guys out of position.

meh
