This.

It may have been hard to see on TV but if you were at the stadium you would have seen numerous times we "broke the lines" out of D50 only to have nobody but red and white shirts to kick to.

And sometimes, we just kicked to them anyway.

Sydney are an extremely well conditioned team who play to a structure that minimizes their weaknesses.

In comparison, Carlton played like a team who are given half-instructions but are more-so told to play on their own strengths.

When Sydney got the ball everyone ran to the positions they've clearly been conditioned to doing.

When Carlton got the ball we went to the boundary line, then saw we had nobody proactively running to designated areas, so proceeded to kick back into D50 (or to a someone in a red and white shirt).

THIS!!!!

Boggles my mind that we 'Play on at all costs' only to have nobody up field to kick the bloody thing too.

At one point, Eddie, Levi & Waite were all up around midfield when we had the run. ???? WTF??? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I think the Davies criticism is warranted. 50% disposal efficiency with so few touches of the footy means you're a liability.

Moreso, he doesn't tackle. In the Richmond game whoever he played on had a field day. eg. Martin in the first quarter.

2 of the goals against davies in that match were quite unlucky. In one instance, the ball was kicked out of his hand by another blues player coming in to contest after martin had already been beaten in the contest. It would have been cleared otherwise. In the other instance, there was a clear holding decision (to davies) that was missed by the umps.

Having said that though, I dont think he will be in the team this week (sub that doesnt do very well = likely to be dropped)

My changes
Out - jamison, curnow, davies
In - watson, robinson, walker

If either robinson or walker arent ready yet then I wouldnt mind seeing ROK or Mitchell in the 22

I can't understand it. Barker or whoever is the forwards coach, is yelling at these guys to get up the field onto the flanks and wings.

It's football suicide. It's dumb. It must mean it's Carlton.

Ratts said in his weekly email and Darren Harris in todays paper that Mitchell unlikely
to be considered this year as he has hardly played any footy over the last 2 years and
best to look to 2013.

cheers rubicon

I think that's appropriate - let him slow build his touch and fitness and make sure he get's through preseason without any interruptions

Why not give him a taste of Senior footy this year to wet his appetite and motivate him for more next year over the pre season...

Good analysis... I watched the replay and it doesn't do the game itself justice... it painted a rosier but false picture of what actually happened up the field.

Swans spread when they had the ball was swift and accurate... we were slow

Swans defensive zones left us with few options and led to constant turnovers

The 22 point margin flattered us...

Assuming Jamo is unavailable but Robbo, Watson & Walker are OK....

OUT- Jamo (inj), AJ, Curnow, Davies
IN- Robbo, ROK, Walker, Watson

If Casboult needs a rest, bring in T-Bird (Mitchell's not ready, IMO). If Scotland needs a rest, bring in Lucas. If McIness needs a rest, bring in Duigan.

J Brown is licking his lips with no Jamo or Hendo in the side and our backline looks slow with Watson & White in it. Bower has the closing speed to replace Jamo, but I don't think they will pick him. He didn't play in the VFL last week, so he might be injured anyway. And McCarthy isn't ready.

Tuohy isn't setting the world on fire at the moment, but I'd persist with him ahead of AJ & Davies.

Give ROK a chance to prove he should be at the club next year. And don't play him as the Sub - give him the chance to work into the game from the 1st bounce.

B: Tuohy Watson McInnes
HB: Yarran White Gibbs
C: Scotland Robbo ROK
HF: Armfield Waite Simmo
F: Betts Casboult Walker

R: Kreuzer Carrazzo Murphy
Inter: Brock, Collins, Garlett
Sub: Bell

Waite's given up? Aiming for top 4 next year(Dreaming unless serious changes happen).

"We really needed the win to sort of keep our season alive," he said today.

Plus

"his back was in such a bad state that he couldn't even sit early in his time out of the game and will require management"

Rest for Waite on the cards? No point risking him given the first sentence. Play Thornton?

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-ne ... 6444141883

If they are going to dump Thornton at the end of the year I hope he gets a farewell as stepping in to backline after losing SOS, Sexton and Christou was a big ask for 18yo. Obviously Clarkson saw something in him in 2008 and 2010 that Ratten now doesn't.

Win every game and we make it given Freo plays Adelaide at AAMI and Essendon* play North. A win puts back in the picture possibly. Freo have to play North soon too. We play Essendon* and St.Kilda so win them all and we're a shot.

Should've been closer yesterday given the amount of shots we missed including a squillion that went out on the full.

I think Swans never got out of 2nd gear, and had an off day, they should have flogged us.

Who is going to play on Brown & Merrett?

Watson & ??

Well, I suggested Waite. We need someone experienced down back. he can leap, and punch the ball away. oh, and he can mark as well.

Anyways, off to watch the sailing.

Our exchange student is pretty excited to be going to an AFL match.

Mitchell has played bugger all footy for 3 years. Don't see any need to rush him into the firsts. If he can play the next month in the 2's (meaning he's played about 10 games in a row for the first time in years) and then be ready for a pre-season I'd say that would be a good result for him. Shouldn't affect his motivation at all.

Yep this for mine also. Tuohy as sub I reckon.

O'Keeffe has to play.

Yep. Season essentially over, Saturday night, Etihad, playing a team even worse than we are.
