Definitely has the tools but I don't think he has the defensive mindset and experience needed yet.

They're not fighting for the same spot.
Thornton is out for Waite.

I actually would of thought that having Casboult and Thornton as the key forwards with Waite as a third option would of been better.

But we know Thornton isn't selected because of other reasons.

Maybe its because he is a talented kid. Was very good in last years finals and unfortunately has been injured. Struggled early last week when played out of position. When given room in second half he got better. Good to see him retained. Wish it would happen more with some of our kids.

What are his 'weapons' or aspects of his play that benefit the team?

The kids played 14 games and just one this year.

Give him a chance. IMO he will be a surprise to many. He is a good kick, smart decision maker and a one grab player.

He could well develop into the bigger bodied sized mid we need. As he develops it is obvious to me he will be better suited there than in the back half. Has an excellent "engine" and given time to develop could be a very good player if treated right.

He's a midfielder. Just needs to get time in there.

Imagine him (he's about 6ft2) with Bell, Robbo, Touhy & McLean around the middle doing the dirty work with Judd, Murphy, Carrots, Gibbs, Garlett, Lucas, Simpson running on the outside? Adds a whole new dynamic to the side.

Pretty much like for like changes.

Davies must show a bit on the track and have the right attitude. He moves well and contests but just makes silly mistakes. He is a chance of coming good . Hopefully soon.

Thornton no doubt knew when we kept him for this year that he would be a depth player and would spend a lot of time in and out of the team.
Must frustrate him but lack of interest at trade time shows what the football world think of him as a player.
He should keep at it though. As a depth player he is reasonably handy.

Win lose or draw this is going to be an interesting game for Blues supporters.

Poor Thornton. Davies is lucky, not sure what he offers exactly. Always gets beaten in a one on one competition down back and then is so ou if his depth that he gives away frees. Just watch the swans isolate him one on one.

On this page I've read that davies will be a gun midfielder and that yarran should be used as a tagger on Jetta so that he learns some defensive stuff
