I think that there may be an impasse over the direction (and make up) of the board for next season, and a budding new addition to the board has put it to Mr. Barrett to convince the powers that be of the need for change...

Complete knob, but finally - someone in the established media has a decent go at him..

That's an unusually spiteful piece from a serial suckhole.

Motive?

Not sure on motive, but Id say Sticks has had a crack at him a few times so retribution. May be more to it.

One thing we know is that articles like this are make it more likely Sticks will dig his toes in.

Yep. Barrett has mentioned this on the Triple M pre-game a couple of times this year.

JB and Lyon who are mates with Sticks have also joked about the fact that whenever they catch up with Kernahan he always tells them to "give that such and such Barrett what for when they see him". I'm paraphrasing but you get the idea.

We also know that Sticks lined up Wilson, Robinson, and Patrick Smith in his infamous @#$%&! the rest speech so no doubt he's barely missed anyone over the years.

Motive? Don't think there is any anti-Carlton agenda, just a chance for a story with numerous potential for follow up.

Ratten gone is supposed to be the worst kept secret in football yet Barrett was on the Sunday Footy Show making a case for Ratten to stay, and then prints that article 24 hours later. Chances are he knows he is gone, but will dig as hard as possible to get the club to make some sort of statement to the contrary that he can then dig up in 3 months time when MM or whoever accepts the deal.

He did the same thing with the whole Essendon*/Thompson/Hird affair to the point where it was an interesting story up until the point that they started winning games and everyone gave up giving a stuff as to all the lies that were fished up through 2010.

The timing with us winning 3 of the last 4 is probably the best he will get all year considering the likelihood of a thrashing against Sydney.

It's a much mire interesting angle to take then merely joining the Ratten gone/Malthouse in chorus.

To me Barrett's piece reads like a petulant response to something, something he didn't enjoy.

It looks to me like he's been given clip by Sticks.

No, Sticks made Barrett cry a river and throw a public hissy fit. That's why I love him more

"Eyebrows were raised yesterday after The Australian Financial Review reported that Australia Post CEO Ahmed Fahour had "hosted" several "high-priced tables" at a corporate hospitality event in London alongside his good mate, AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.

An AOC source declined to reveal Australia Post's total spend but said revenue from the 26 official Australian Olympic team partners was worth "$38 or $39 million". Each sponsor maintains a separate commercial-in-confidence arrangement ranging from $400,000 upwards."

Australia Post makes a lot more money out of being an Olympic sponsor than it costs. Millions more...

It's no secret that Ahmed and his mates are on the worlds best extended boys road trip!

When he gets back is when things will get interesting...

This is a guy who has no idea what the media is... and says at AGMs "Give them nothing Ratts.... you should know better"....and we get crap press and are disconnected with supporters... barackers....

Sticks might be populist in the small picture.. but the big picture has no clue about the media.. and ultimatey we will suffer for it...

Abusing the company credit card is usually frowned upon by people concerned with good corporate governance .

Me too

Loving sticks leadership and really enjoying Ratten's insightful coaching. Moulded the group into a side that can achieve some goals despite the odds. Very very good coach is Ratten

The way I see it right now, Kernahan & Ratten have one last role of the dice.....make finals in 2012.
I hope they do - as legends of the club!!! Sometimes people - with very little status - FORGET.

I suppose how you view "corporate hospitality".

A lot of companies do attend events and invite valued clients along to help establish or reinforce a corporate relationship. I've organized a few (not 400k worth but substantial) and been invited to a lot.

Corporate boxes, interstate trips, corp dinners etc, and , with very few exceptions, it's the case that the employees of the companies paying the bill are ones who really want these trips. The fact that they can squeeze in a few clients is just there for cover.

So maybe "abusing" is too hard a call because I'm sure AF can justify to the board his expenditure, but its likely the reality is its corporate waste on a grand scale.

Nobody has forgotten Surrey.

I hope we make finals too, but;

what happened to top 4?
what happened against Port?
what happened against Crows?
what happened against North?
what happened to 50K members?

Rallying wins against Dogs & Tigers by an undermanned Blues are nice, but really? We should win
these games if we are serious, no matter how many injuries.

depends on how the expense relates to the generated income

is it 100% neccessary? probably not , over the top? probably

but again if you are spending 100's of thousands wining and dining to generate 100's of millions worth of income

i think you are going ok
