The interview to me highlights the strengths and ultimately the weakness of this club

Elliott comment is gold

Elliott in one sense was great for the club but like
fosters
ricefarms and other business ventures his ego got in the way and he [REDACTED] up the club
He promised he would leave the Presidency when Carlton won their next flag.
They did in 95 but like so many other promises he made he went back on them.

And we have been [REDACTED] every since
There aint piles of shit now as a legacy of the Elliott years hanging around bowels of Visy Park

But the stench is still there and we wont reach our full potential on and off the field until the smell goes.

Times change
You can stay too long in one place
People need to be moved on

One thing still astounds me, about that dark period, was Elliot's claim that he knew nothing about the salary cap rorts. Many Carlton people to this day love Elliot and claim the rorts bought us premiership(s). Maybe, but they also left us in the wilderness for 10-15 years and counting.

Fev was the first one over to remonstrate.

The look on Murphy's face on the Geelong bench was telling.

Still makes my blood boil!

I am sure I recall an interview with Murphy where he said that he wasn't so much disgusted that it was SOS the friend and legend who had been ko'd, but rather the stupidity of ko'ing SOS as this act might fire up the carlton team to play much better against Murphy's team.

There is angst between some people and Silvagni.

I happen to know one of his uncles.

Silvagni came clean because of a few reasons.
It was meant to have been the AFL would go easier on us with a deal between Collo and Demetriou... the commision overuled and !@#$%& us harder anyway/
Silvagni was never paid monies owed.
Silvagni did the right thing as he was still looking for a career in footy.... Dog Brown had one outside of footy.

Ironically Brown later got a job 'consulting' on the Carlton coaching position

Have no probs with how SOS answered and think people are chasing shadows.

On the father/son - it wasn't about Carlton it was about a dad really not wanting his boys to be under high expectations and not being able to live up to it.
I think some on here have seen a different interview.

Agree Danny, that's all it was. But it was easy to assume other things in the interview, because SOS looked and answered so cautiously and nervously I thought.

Am I the only one who was bitterly disappointed with the tone and subject matter of this interview? Half an hour one on one with one of the champions of our club and Mike Sheehan chooses to focus on every negative possible. I know he's going for "hard news" but surely there were more highs and lows!

- Rather than talking about the excitement of winning the grand final in 1987 he instead focuses on 1986
- Instead of looking at his 1995 finals series (1 goal conceded against White, Carey and Ablett), he focuses on when Lockett kicked 10.7
- No mention of the 10 goals versus fitzroy at optus oval

I could go on ...

Good point

Hmmm...given there was about 2 minutes to go in that game an we were up by 70 points that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Exactly right. SOS has no senior coaching aspirations. Never has.

Or (huge longshot) he actually wants to do something other than be a senior coach. Not everyone in the world has the same ambitions and desires.

Maybe he's gutsy enough to follow his own path, and not be swayed by the expectations of others.

I thought all things considered he did his very best to keep tight-lipped. Of course that only fuels more speculation. I took the 'truth hasn't come out' comment to mean that (as usual) the media run with tripe and make things worse than they actually are. Didn't think he was trying to speak ill deliberately...
