The club has been talking about playing the youngsters for a while now and it was raised on the BluePrint this week. it is a glaring indictment on the club that players like Bower, Russell, Garlett, Hampson etc... have continued to get games at the expense of the kids. I know the youngsters have not been setting the world on fire in the VFL, but surely guys like Ball, Dale, McCarthy, Mitchell, Casboult must get a game soon and get a chance to show if they are up to it. Finally Watson and Macca got some regular game time and they look promising, hopefully Lucas can improve.

Has anyone got any information about P. McCarthy and F.Dale????? where are they at,are they improving and will they be at the club next year?? I say give McCarthy a go in particular, his height would be very useful

Im all for playing the kids but it wont happen at the moment whilst we are still are chance for finals and Ratten is trying to hand on to his job. This is where the current position we are in is no good. Ratten is in survival mode and even though he can't see it he is doing what is best for him, not the club.

The other point is do we actually want kids playing in a side that is justing getting worse and playing without direction or effort?

As McKay admitted during the week they have been "forced" to play some kids. :screwy:

As for the players:

Dale: Very skilful onballer but needs time. Showed glimpses of talent at reserves level but I wouldn't play him yet. Same with Buckley.

McCarthy: Although smoke reports are he has been average I really disagree. Playing full back he is a big unit and has kept improving. Smart kid who can fill most key positions. I actually see him as our next FB. Tall, athletic and mobile. Next in line if we are serious. Malthouse would play him as he realises the need for a big key defender. Real leader as well.

Mitchell: Has the ability but just needs to play. Has never played a full season at any level.

Casboult: Would be playing now if he hadn't done his knee. Concern about playing him now is he has no form.

Bell: Big body which we need but no sure he offers anything else?

Rather now see them come in next year after proper pre season and new coach and development program.
