1. Pick fit players, pick inform players, therefore pick the best available, formula and process doesn't change.

2. Forwards - 2 Talls, 2 Mediums, 2 smalls

3. Backs - 2 Talls, 2 Mediums, 2 smalls

4. Rucks - 2 Ruckman

5. Onball - Inside & Outside players

6 Bench - 1 of the Ruckman, 1 tall, 1 medium, 1 small.

7 Sub player - Must be a medium sized swingman

Problem is the balance on our list is all wrong. Essentially you need to have two teams ready to go like the old days.

So every player in the team has an understudy for when they are injured or out of form.

We have too many half back flankers these days.

Time to delist and play money ball to get what we need.

Swans can do it why cant we?

We do. They may not be ready, but they are worth investing games in.

They don't even have the fitness to play a full AFL game yet.

We have most of the players, match committee isnt prepared to make tough calls on players.

Ratten has his favorites and always picks them.

This year Jamison, Henderson, Walker, Waite, Yarran and Murphy have been played when not fit.

Next week, we need to play Bower, Thornton and Casbolt

Back
McInness (BP)
Jamison (FB)
Watson (CHB)

Forward
Thornton
Waite
Gibbs

Rucks
Kruezer
Casbolt

Which would be awful as it might cause us to lose games by 10 goals or more :yikes:

It's not about wins or losses. It's about their development. Throwing them to the wolves when they have neither the fitness nor the ability to compete at AFL level benefits no one. At best you're hoping their confidence doesn't get destroyed.

Thats ludicrous.

Development for Casboult???

We have to make a call on his place on the list end of this season....

Unless were developing him for Port Melbourne.

Anyway... ill make a call on Casboult... hes not going to make it.

Cos hes not good enough......

Levi is no better or worse than Jumping Jack down at Geelong.

Difference we refuse to play Gibbs as our Steve J.

Levi looked pretty fit down at Frankston last Sunday.

Its time to put him in as 3rd forward or 2nd ruck.

List management is all wrong so we dont have right balance of KPPs. Too many flanker types.

You're right, it isn't about wins or losses now, so who gives a shit if we have to sub off a new guy halfway into a game because his fitness isn't up to par yet? Isn't that what player management is all about? Or are we left with no choice but to leave them out there until their shoulder pops?

Also, I'm really over this "destroying their confidence" stuff. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but seeing how well our nice guy brigade are travelling at present, I can think of worse things than giving a young guy an early taste of the big league and then going into a preseason with a full understanding of what will be required. Might be just the thing to "make a man out of him". We need to stop mollie-coddling these guys and teach them to grow some balls.

Levi's played one week of VFL after a long layoff and didn't have a big tank to begin with. Promoting him now is guaranteeing his failure. Let him string a couple of games together in the VFL first and give him an opportunity in the last few rounds.

murphy
- would have been running for most of the time off
- established player
- top line midfielder with good skills (which were rusty tonight)

casboult
- had a knee injury that would have prevented running/limited his fitness base
- hasn't played a game
- tall

notice the difference?

Murphy is one of the best midfielders in the league coming back from a shoulder. There's no comparison to a slow tall coming back from a knee injury.
