I can't see Kernahan departing anytime soon so therefore think Ratts will most likely continue on as senior coach next year with some changes (possibly token changes) made to conditioning & development staff.
How the playing group reacts is the million dollar question.

Sticks doesn't have carte blanche on Ratten's future. The board does. If there is a review of every position, his will be reviewed and the decision will be made to part ways. He doesn't have the numbers.

He's probably not going to like this one if done externally. But the onus is still on the board to take on the recommendations.

interested in your take on board alignments, Doc

I'd say Gleeson Jeanne Roffy would align with Sticks - where do you reckon Newton Fried Lee LoGuidice Pratt Trainor sit ?

Sticks and Bear will go with the wrong choice until it becomes clear that they risk looking like idiots and join the status quo. That's based on historical fact.

Review or no review, come end of year Ratten will be gone, there is no doubt about it. His position has become untenable. They’re only holding out till the end of the year so it looks somewhat like a thought out decision, not a knee jerk reaction. But you can bank on it, he will be gone.

I think if tonight is a blowout, Ratten will jump before he is pushed.

Hmmm...don't think so. Particularly if there's a payout involved for 2013...he'd be mad to quit. It's not as though he's going to be in demand for anything next year.

Just off topic - but this is spot on.

Our coach and MC have made 3 critical mistakes on personnel
1. Recruiting Warnock
2. Giving up #11 for McLean
3. Keeping Hampson/Warnock over Sauce
4. Keeping Bower over Setanta

I think that's 4. They've made 4 critical mistakes.

Ratten as coach is 5... and more critical

I'll bet he's right and that Ratts has a great footy brain. But senior coaching gig is way more complicated all-encompassing than that now. As many have said, ratt's great footy brain would translate well to a line coach/assistant role. But he needs more than that to be one of the best.

I really agreewith that, and hope he'd stay on in that role next year.

Can't happen unfortunately.
You can't have a senior coach come in and have the guy you had sacked report to you. Just unworkable and uncomfortable.

Malthouse will bring in a whole new team. I doubt any of the current assistants will be there. I'd support him keeping Brown though.[/quote]
Malthouse has worked closely with most of them, don't think he'd mind Brown or Richardson being around at the very least....
