Cutting guys slack because they played for us is a recipe for mediocrity.

You love them forever as ex-players. You make them life members. You put their names on lockers. You name stands after them, put them in your team of the century, you tell their story to every new recruit, and when they die you sprinkle their ashes on your home ground.

But when it comes to $500,000 - $1,000,000 senior executive positions (which is what the senior coach is) you treat them the same as you would anyone else.

Loved Ratts as a player. Think he's harming the club as a coach.

All good and well to feel that way mate, but we are at the point now where we know what will happen if the results dont come. Lets not dance on his grave as a very wise man once said.

Well said Benji. Ratts is Carlton through and through just like us. Most of us don't really know want goes on behind the scenes but we know Ratts loves this footy club and we as supporters should show him the respect he deserves.

Agree - I dont think we think any less of Jim Francis and Ken Hands who were great players for this club but not that successful as coaches.

We wouldnt think any less of Ratten either - his name on the locker, B&Fs, Premiership Player - we would probably think more of him if he graciously acknowledged that he tried but wasnt up to it and gracefully resigned.

Bloke on this website worked for the club for 20 years for nothing, got the arse this year. That's the sort of person you feel bad for. How much respect did he get (not a lot)

People who earn their living from the club... They're employees. You start to have lower standards and make excuses for them because they played for us... You won't go anywhere.

If Ratts didn't play for Carlton would he ever have been our senior coach? Would sticks be our president if he didn't play for us?

"we're Carlton, @#$%&! the rest" is a pretty poor positioning statement.

Now that I think about it, it could be interpreted that we have aids, so stay away. Hmmmm ... Maybe Brock was reinforcing the point.

this post is making me want to spew just a little in my mouth.

ratts could do the best coaching job OF ALL TIME BY SO FAR ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY this friday and we'll still probably get done. more than ever when a coach is looking down the barrel, look no further than to the reaction of the team he guides and nurtures to see the truest signs of what will lie ahead shall we persist with our current sensei and not seek a higher source of inspiration and enlightenment.......

Now GAGF!!!!

Synbad I have read a lot of your posts over the last couple of years. Sometimes I agree with you sometimes I have no idea what your on about but I always get a laugh out of you. I would love someone like a Mike Fitzpatrick to become our President and for Malthouse to coach and I agree that Stick's time is up along with Ratts. I just feel that Ratts still deserves my respect as a club legend. People don't have to agree.

They certainly wilted under pressure very easily against the Hawks.

If there is nothing tomorrow by way of backbone, he has to go.

perhaps we need a Harris/Jezza alignment.....ie Sticks/Ratts combo & then vote them out. Then in 10 yrs when we're travelling not so crash we can get Ratts back to coach for 1.5 years then sack him

I'm backing Ratts in and urging the players to pull their fingers out. People are prepared to blame injuries when they first strike and then for no different reason just move on to blaming something or someone else despite injuries still playing a key role. Now we have carrots and Scotland back. Scotland has been a little disappointing, Carrots has (despite what Champion Data reveals) been a huge improver this year. We're missing a general down back, our best mid and our best key-forward, with those below him on the pecking order also unable to get games due to injuries and illness. In this ridiculously reactive industry of AFL football, people get caught up in their emotions and, I would argue, lose a fair and balanced sense of thought....we feel that success is just around the corner and probably because of the past decade of pain we feel that we have earned success by doing the hard yards, which makes us all the more impatient.

At the end of the day, everyone feels the pressure of the media/public. I just hope that Sticks and Swann are not weak enough to succumb to these idiots (public - yes, you, and the media) and instead deal with the situation with due diligence.

Wait... what? What has anything mots just said have to do with "eather he is capable and the $500k he gets pretending to coach???"

He said, Ratts loves the Club and is a Carlton man through and through, so we should all afford him the respect he deserves.

The respect mots is talking about has absolutely nothing to do with whether he is doing a good enough job or not as a coach. It has everything to do with him as a man who has dedicated most of his life to CFC in some shape or form. This wasn't a "Can Ratten Coach" thread. If it were, you would be justified in posting that.

I like that you question things Synners, and like that you aren't afraid to say what you think. Occasionally though, you need a shit filter :P
