Development of those players?

2007 and 2009 we don't give ourselves much of a chance with only three picks.

Development is the big question I agree

The only pick I questioned was Benjamin - the rest had/has talent that hasn't been developed.

Seems highly likely that if we lose against North Melbourne we will be left with no choice but to develop kids for next year. Hope Davies & Casboult have solid come back games this week in NB.
When it comes to CFC I refuse to be negative on the club - one thing I really look forward to every weekend, whether 16th or 1st - always something to focus on...and have travelled around Australia supporting them on countless occassions.

In four weeks

B: Joseph Watson Jamison
HB: Yarran Henderson Duigan
C: Gibbs Carrazzo Simpson
HF: Walker Waite Lucas
F: Betts Casboult Garlett
R: Kreuzer Judd Murphy
IC: Hampson Armfield Scotland Sub: Ellard
E: Davies McInnes Mitchell

Go Blues.

Mark Stevens can't use the Judd/Kennedy trade argument every week with Kennedy long term injured so he needs to find some new material

We only had injuries to fringe players last year which didn't have much impact to our performances.

Where we went wrong was giving more kids a taste, thus creating depth.

I agree with those sentiments Kenny, successful Carlton sides used to bring a kid or two in around a solid core of senior players to allow them to find their feet without a huge amount of pressure, this didn't happen last year and couldn't happen this year for obvious reasons.

Have the club sacrificed long term development for potential short term gain, such as playing in a final or two and keeping the supporters happy?

Or was this the year that it was going to happen but was stuffed up by key injuries?

There is no doubt that we overpaid in the Judd deal by giving them Kennedy as well.

However I cant help thinking if we had retained Kennedy - that we would be in much the same predicament because our player development has been so poor that Kennedy would have stagnated with us rather than flourished (as he has done with West Coast).

We should have given West Coast pick one for Judd. Then we would have kept Kennedy, and Pick 3. But no someone in their wisdom made a choice out of Kruezer and Kennedy and picked Kruezer.

Fev & Brock trades.

Fev was great move, macleans a shocker.

Tonight's game shows Fev is still one of the best marking forwards in the game even when fat. Rookie draft him at the end of year & stick him in the goal square. Does seem to have grown up somewhat finally.

Yeah,
Great idea

Have you considered that perhaps Josh (and Masten/whoever else we drafted) would've floundered had he stayed on our list?

You don't like the development of Yarran, Betts, Jamison, Garlett, Robinson, Hampson, Simpson, Armfield, Walker?

Gibbs should be ripping it apart but he has beaten the games best one on one.
Murph is Murph
Lucas needs to start coming on and is a good kid.
Kreuzer very up and down and at this point our most disappointing number one.

Laidler, Henderson progressed nicely since coming over where Hendo has seriously come on.

Watson is only a kid and is a tall that needs three years to develop like Hendo.

Richmond didn't develop Grigg, we did.
Adelaide didn't develop Sauce, we did.

Generally speaking our development has been good but can always be better. Kids need senior structures around them to take on the best teams and we simply havent had that structure for the most part this year.

I don't rate 3rd round picks + as largely hit and miss across the board.

Sadly most people cannot spot this obvious point.

Mark Stevens  had us top 3 pre season. obviously didnt do his analysis on our recruiting then.

krezuer and gibbs question marks is laughable. gibbs out of form & kreuzer injured.

wheres tuohy?

not a huge fan of davies but to write him off after 13 games is also laughable. a cross against hammer who is probably the only guy who has improved this year is also silly. hammer couldnt take 7 marks in a half season of footy last year but managed to do that on friday night (again)

i am also sure you could go through all of the other 17 clubs and put crosses against most guys picked after 50 (benjamin, kerr, anderson, tiller, okeefe?).

our recruiting hasnt been perfect but that table is just shit.

They asked for Bower first and we said no.

If our player development was so good we wouldnt be in this mess.

If you dont rate 3rd round picks - have a look at how many of Geelong's Premiership Players were 3rd rounders.

I thought this was a myth.

In any case, PB would be their backline general right now and JK would be pinch-hitting in the ruck at the NB, or would be "2-3 weeks away", so it's a moot point.
