With Geelong they know their midfield bats pretty deep - but what do they do, go and draft more anyway (Christensen, Smedts, Horlin-Smith, Duncan). They had Ottens but still went and draft Mumford, West, Simpson, Stephenson. They have Scarlett/Taylor/Pod/Hawkins but still went and drafted Mitch Brown, Gillies. They give themselves a chance by drafting them and then they actually develop them - if they end up with a surplus in one position they benefit at trade week. Worst of all, they lost the best player in the competition and won the flag the next year.

We don't give ourselves the chance often enough!

You are spot on, we recruit and draft like we are filling a quota and keep players on the list simply because they are serviceable. We need to approach the whole thing like it's an opportunity.

Sticks on 3AW at the moment. They are trying to get him to say Ratts will coach out the rest of this year at least. Sticks won't, says at this stage he has a contract so should see out the year. Says if that changes everyone will know. There is 9 games left and they haven't given up on finals.

Interview is still on.......

Have not spoken about Roos or Malthouse as a board. He only met Malthouse twice. What happens if the board wants to get rid of Ratten, will you leave ?. He says he was voted in by the members, and every year says is it time for me to go, and they want him to stay..

Gerard says I get the feeling ratts won't survive a month of poor form. He said nobody would survive 4 weeks of good form. Any change he will let us know..

To all the supporters hopefully whatever happens on Friday, he hopes we will see a spirited side, and it's not all ratts fault.

i hear ha ha brown cow...

And its coming....

I hear that.... they can trick us and do it after North... but i hear its here after Collingwood if its on the heavy side...

Sticks was always going to throw his mate under the bus as soon as he showed his mate he stuck with him for as long as he could.

Its why he is known as sticks.

stuck with elliot for as long as he could
stuck with collo for as ong as he could
stuck with smorgo for as long as he could
stuck with pagan for as long as he could
stuck with ratts for as long as he could
stuck as president for as long as he could

never mind alot of different and opposing philosophies in there.. sticks sticks..

can you smell what the blues are cooking..????

hes come out of each of those situations smelling of roses.. but this time.... sticks stinks!!! and he wont be able to lose the stench till he lands himself mm

Well from that interview Ratts is not guaranteed to finish the season and Mathieson has laid the law down to sticks.

My take - Ratts will be gone on the weekend if we don't give a decent showing and Sticks will be gone by the end of the year.

I just hope if a decision is made on Ratts to leave, that his exit is treated in a respectful manner - he is a champion of the club.
These decisions are tough and they don't any easier no matter who they are.
The next coach is going to be one of the most important coaching appointments we make at our club since Barassi deflecting from Melbourne to us in the 60's. Hope they do their due diligence.
Make no mistake, if Ratts goes, others should be shown the door, too. Fitness, recruiting, admin?

I don't remember voting to keep Sticks as Prez every year. :-)
Must have missed the voting card.
