Eddie McGuire stood by his man in 2005 when they finished second last from memory ... played in a prelim and lost by under a goal and then won a flag in 2010. In 2005 the Collingwood supporters wanted Malthouse's blodd ... they were seething.

I am not advocating that Ratten will resurrect the team and go on and win a flag.

What I am advocating is that it is too simplistic to just think getting rid of Ratten will solve all our issues. Our issues run deeper because our club still does not accept that it must invest heavily in recruiting and development both in dollars and mindset. We get Judd ... "we got our man" and so we have the mindset that this is what will bring us long term success. We believe that we can build a team on who we can acquire from elsewhere. It won't happen.

The thought that we can invest in a part time VFL coach is wrong for us. We just don't get it.

We have gathered too many players with poor execution in decision making and disposal ... we are the worst short kicking team in the competition.

We have gathered too many talls that lack aerial judgment, struggle to take marks in tight congested situations and spoil in tight congested situations.

Our development is lacking with players

(a) not going up in notches as they gain game time and

(b) better credentialed players not showing enough to put them in key spots in games (for example the likes of Gibbs, Yarran and Walker playing in pockets and flanks and not in key midfield match winning roles).

Okay, go ahead folks and sack Ratten ... but nothing will change at Carlton because "we still see what we see and therefore we will be what we be".

NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNTIL WE CHANGE OUR MINDSET.

excellent post.

McGuire also has said openly that Collingwood sent players in early for surgery and played the kids from half way through the season. Big difference!

Seriously with the team we were able to field on Fridat night did anyone really expect us to win?

I am certainly not a defeatist but having a look at the lineups made tipping the winner fairly easy.

It's imposible to have a good structure when you don't have any key tall forwards. Hampson is not up to a key forward post but is only there because there is nobody else.

You can't be solid in defence when the only bloke tall enough to cope with Buddy is out.

You can't win the midfield with one A grader in the centre.

I have no problem with changing the coach but how will the new coach get us to win next week?

Same thing over again. No cattle to work with.

Once the structure breaks down it becomes a snowball of things not working which breads lose of confidence.

I know it's easy to blame injury but it is fact.

Well said.

My 5 day old son will bring us luck & get us over the line tonight. His nappies might be hawthorn but his future is Carlton.

Yarran will play full forward and steer us to a fairly encouraging 265 point victory.

There was some good analysis on AFL Insider by David King showing our inability to get a free man to play third man up against Buddy.

Duigan was wanting to play that role and, in the highlights presented by King, the Hawks were really well disciplined to ensure Duigan always had to be responsible for a man, with his opponent trying to drag him behind Buddy.

Structure. That'd be nice.

Oh, congrats CK!

That was a funny site.
Made Duigan look silly at times but their moves had nothing to do with him being silly.
He looked like he was reading the game further upfield.

Yeah the part that gets me is that if we want plus 1, we have to have a plan B to make that happen when the opposition trump us,

Some of the tactics they showed by Hawks and Pies were really impressive.

They teach roles in their development, and we probably teach style of player and pace....and they still can't kick accurately.

I hope this show is seen by the wholse senior squad.

We really [REDACTED] up against the Hawks.
Yes Buddy did make a huge difference, but they beat us everywhere.
