You mean the fair weather supporters, negative nellies and other such excretement?
Happy to debate with people with half a clue on the CFC try[ing] to avoid the others, difficult to do.

No ex Carlton players or mates with Sticks/Mackay etc.

Scott Burns comes across very well.

So others I've heard positive comments on are Ken Hinkley, Matthew Egan (too young?), Leon Cameron and John Blakey. Thoughts?

It's been said that this would be a good year for interviewing coaches, with a pretty dull "sakc the coach" off-season looking likely (at least compared to last year). Would be a perfect time to have our pick of the litter.

Scott Camporeale.

Wonder how Campo is rated for his work at Adelaide.

Is he their midfield coach?

Nick Stevens will probably sign on as an assistant with a big club such as Hawthorn, Collingwood or Essendon* down the track. :hitcomputer:

Someone discussed in another thread is Scott Burns. The only way I'd want Malthouse on board if it's a mentor role with Scott Burns. The West Coast midfield group can't speak highly enough of Burns. Look at some of their set-ups around the stoppages and centre-bounces and you'll understand why. It's creative, defensive, attacking, tough and surprisingly simple in it's makeup - but difficult to coach against. More importantly, it's easily transferable to our midfield and I'd love to see how he could utilize the lesser-likes in Curnow, Lucas, Ellard if they're around next year.

Doc, this would be the ideal situation.

You have the ears of some people at the club, don't you?
Can you start spreading this idea around?

If Mick couldn't stand to be in the mentor role with Nathan Buckley, what makes you think he will agree to do so with Scott Burns?

He'll do it inspite of Eddie  Now that would whipe the grin off Eddie's and that tribal filth's faces

Teague took the Bullants to 2 Grand Finals and look how the Eagles have turned things around since he arrived 2 years ago!

Reckon he needs a bit more time assisting but definitely one that we should be trying to get back to the club.

Very different situation. One was a forced handover. The other is a role whereby Burns comes with significant strategic nous and is someone the players play for. Malthouse understands the theory and how to make the player understand their role within the team. It could very well be a win/win. Biggest problem with this is losing Gavin Brown in the process who still, perhaps naively, harbors ambitions for a senior AFL coaching gig.

I dont know a lot about Scott Burns but at least he is someone new and fresh and hungry.

I like the idea of us finding the next great coach, rather than appointing a Malthouse, Roos.

We havent really done this since appointing Barassi in 1965.

Mark Williams would be right up there IMO.
Burns/Malthouse is a great idea. Burnhouse

Would certainly have the combined strength of character to shake up the "Boys Club" Mentality around the place.

With the greatest respect to Doc and everyone else not directly involved in selecting our coach, if they're taking ideas spread from supporters we're in worse trouble than anyone could ever imagine.

- premiership coach
- lost his way at Port Ad, stayed too long
- done great things at GWS
- has Giants playing tough footy (especially for kids)
- has energy to burn
- would be chomping at the bit to the be the main man
- get him before he takes over from Sheedy

Maybe.

I always saw him as a smug prick , but I'm starting to come to the conclusion you need a bit of shit in you to become a good AFL coach.

Sheedy- Dirty back pocket
Mathews - fabulous but nasty bastard on field.
Clarkson - Do I need say anything.
Williams - as above.
Woosha- not a nice guy on field.
MM - Another Tiger nasty.
Scott - took no prisoners
Thompson - not dirty but uncompromising and trained by Sheeds.

Of the non premiership coaches who appear to be going better.
Scott B - Tough
Hardwick - the original unsociable footballer.
Voss - things are looking up. Played hard and with a broken leg for 4 years.
Hird - courageous but not dirty but from the Sheedy school.

Of the good guys doing well its basically Sanderson, Longmire And Buckley.

All of these guys where in successfully systems for extended periods.
