I didn't see any of the game, was out.

Confused by the comments on Judd today. Two schools of thought....right back into his best form, or selfish and lacking leadership, playing for himself.

Of course it would be good if he had more impact in marking contests/around the ground but you could say the same about the soccer convert.

Hampson does have an impact if he's rucking and not playing out of position. Hard to judge him if we have use him to plug holes as a tall forward.

PRO:
Judd: Back with some ping, though no hard tag almost says the opposition dont rate him that much at present. Clearly our best last night. Dont agree with Taff at all.

Armfield: Perhaps the only player on our list who has improved this year. Hard at it, pacy, never say die, and surprisingly good skills last night including goals that were impressive. Army's efforts really contrast with most of the other softccks on the list

Eddie: Good skills, did his bit, tried hard, and slotted a difficult goal after being poleaxed. Two weeks for that you dog Guerra

Watson: A couple of long and accurate clearing kicks and some (fortunate) contested marks.

Carrazzo: I know Mitchell played well but Carrotts is a class extractor and makes a huge difference to our midfield.

Robbo: Not his very best game but he has gone from a fringe player to top 6 at present. Always gives us something, in effort, zip and impact.

CON:
Horrible night, lost my cool, threatened the bloke behind me who was annoying me, didnt enjoy game at all. Only tension and no pleasure watching football at present.

Walker being roughed up by several Hawks before the game started. No support from others. Worst game I've seen him play. Being played out of position and looks lost. Play him FF Ratts. He was great last year leading out of the square

Bootsma: Sorry, nowhere near ready. Lamb to the slaughter. Do we keep playing him or is senior footy going to kill him. I'm sorry Josh but you have to cut that hair. You cant play football looking like that. Seriously, cut your hair. I mean it. Now. Do you hear me. Its embarrassing, I dont care what your girlfriend says. Be a man. Cut it. And not a trim.

Watson is the future I know (or hope) but he is the slowest footballer in the AFL at present and has no speed off the mark or lateral agility at all. Is this going to improve. He's a lovely kick but can he continue to play back when everyone is going to run around him with ease and he cant get to the contest to spoil. Tough ask last night on Roughhead and Gunston but.

Hampson. Will never ever be a player. Was never going to be, never will be. A liability. His much vaunted "athleticism" is a joke. Give me a football brain and a real footballer any day.

Kreuze. Like Walks, you look lost mate. I know you're probably injured. Running around aimlessly. The lack of a clear structure and role for him is doing him no favours

Gibbs. Whats happened Bryce. No where near the player he was or can be.

Strategy going into the game was flawed. We wanted a bruise free open game to show our outside strengths but Hawthorn murdered us at our own game. Those easy goals on the rebound are a coaching flaw.

Yeah, that'll make all the difference. Never mind about getting two pre-seasons in to you, just cut your hair. We'll have no hippies in our team.

I think I'm in a time warp. Is Bob Menzies still our no1 ticket holder?

Yes. Or no. Im not sure. Also, I dont care; he needs to cut that shit off! Insert furthers comments about discipline and standards etc etc.

They should all be high and tight. Or like Judd.

I'll just comment on Judd

Judd's form was a Pro
Judd wasn't subject to hard tag and had impact only in short bursts, he lacked the ability to burst away, kicks tend to be not very penetrating. Made decision to pass when should have kicked goal.

90% disposal efficiency is pretty damn good.

Looks like he is struggling at times to keep up with contests and wasn't as hard at it as Carazzo and Robinson.

Played well but not much scoreboard impact

Greatly improved on last week one of CFCs best players on the night.

I still think he is not fully fit, next week will be real test for Judd, will he drop off or back it up?

PS Hawthorn were pretty well matched to the Blues in terms of Age, Size Etc. They had 2 more players under 50 games & average games were 10 more than us.

I've read twice now that Judd didn't have a hard tag

Bollocks. Sewell was stuck to him like glue for the first half when Judd did his best work.

Sewell with 24 Disposals , 18 contested possies and 1 tackle was not sticking to Judd like glue at stoppages. He was focused on getting the ball rather than focused on preventing Judd getting ball.

That is not a hard tag

His tagging at stoppages was a hard. Don't quote stats, watch the game.

You blokes want to make it sound like they were just side by side or in the same vicinity.

Watch the first quarter, you'll change your mind.

Pros:

Judd and Carrazzo. Good performance. Strong leadership.
Armfield and Robbo. Very, very honest players.
Watson.
Joseph. Probably wishes he could play on Cyril every week.
Good to see some signs of form from Yarran again.
Gibbs was reasonably good.
I thought Warnock was very good in the ruck contests.
I thought Hammer contested pretty well as our only big forward. Actually seemed to get to a lot more marking contests than usual. Obviously needs to hold more marks. Probably needs to exaggerate some of the illegal contact he's receiving, to draw the umps attention (like many other tall forwards do). Also needs to get on the lead and use his speed more.
McLean had a good first half.
Garlett had a good last quarter.
I know it was junk time, but we actually started to look a little dangerous up forward at the end. Hopefully the footballing 'truism' holds that the way you end one game is the way you start the next.

Cons:

Scotland, Tuohy, Kreuzer, Duigan.
Our defensive set ups. I can understand struggling to score when you're down on talent and confidence. But we should be able to make it far harder for other teams to score against us. It has been laughable how quickly and easily opposition teams break us down.
Shots for goal being touched or marked on the goal line. Must have been 5 or 6. All from lazy inside 50 snaps at goal.

Never noticed before how ordinary Robbo is at tackling till Friday night. One of three things occur:

* - Doesn't go for the tackle and goes the bump instead, usually clumsily executed (see: Redden last year)
* - Overcommits and gets them high...benefit of the doubt says its a professional free kick, but circumstances don't often allow for it.
* - Gets brushed off way too easily.

Ball player, puts his head over it, courageous as they come, but you see better tackles on first year med students at Puggs on uni night...

yes noticed that about Robbo. he tackles dont stick anymore. he kind of attacks the player in a kamikaze type of way, then bounces off him to the ground.

we knocked the good tackling out of him...
