this is one of my biggest concerns. Soft goals conceded is bottom four material.

Realising the hardest, cruelest way that our team is completely shot beyond any immediate repair: Immeasurable

Tonight was the most telling, blunt, trademark definition of our season. Disgusting, heartless, devoid of any structure, desire or pride in the Club, themselves or each other. Embarrassing, third-rate garbage delivered from a shambolic "group" (in the loosest sense) of masqueraders. Can we please fast forward to the off season where we start to hose this wreckage out? Right now we're terminal, and this prolonged death is excruciating.

Synbad, pass the bottle...I'm taking a swig.

I am not advocating that Ratten will resurrect the team and go on and win a flag.

What I am advocating is that it is too simplistic to just think getting rid of Ratten will solve all our issues. Our issues run deeper because our club still does not accept that it must invest heavily in recruiting and development both in dollars and mindset. We get Judd ... "we got our man" and so we have the mindset that this is what will bring us long term success. We believe that we can build a team on who we can acquire from elsewhere. It won't happen.

The thought that we can invest in a part time VFL coach is wrong for us. We just don't get it.

We have gathered too many players with poor execution in decision making and disposal ... we are the worst short kicking team in the competition.

We have gathered too many talls that lack aerial judgment, struggle to take marks in tight congested situations and spoil in tight congested situations.

Our development is lacking with players

(a) not going up in notches as they gain game time and

(b) better credentialed players not showing enough to put them in key spots in games (for example the likes of Gibbs, Yarran and Walker playing in pockets and flanks and not in key midfield match winning roles).

Okay, go ahead folks and sack Ratten ... but nothing will change at Carlton because "we still see what we see and therefore we will be what we be".

NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNTIL WE CHANGE OUR MINDSET.

excellent post.

Simpson was very ordinary last night. 15 disposals is not good enough for a leader.

Lucky Jamison went off injured as he was horrible on Franklin.

Simpson has been ordinary for much of the year. Many say he's our barometer. Two possibilities....he is our barometer, or he doesn't play well when things aren't going our way.

Simpson was going well early in the season, he is now getting tagged and doesnt know how to cope with it.

Judd realises this too. And to think that he could/should have gone to the Filth. Judd - Swan - Pendles........SCARY.

And just this year they've uncovered 4 or 5 kids that can play right off the bat after 5 years in the top 4!

Psychology 101...Carlton style.
If you start with a cage containing five monkeys and inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then you place a set of stairs under the banana, before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana.
As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water. After a while another monkey makes an attempt with same result ... all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it. Now, put the cold water away.
Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted. Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment...... with enthusiasm. Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by the fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs he is attacked.
Now, the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs.
Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water.Nevertheless, not one of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway for the banana.
Why, you ask? Because in their minds...that is the way it has always been!
This, my friends, is how the Carlton Football Club currently operates.. and this is why, from time to time:
ALL of the monkeys need to be REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.

Well said. Agreed.

Love the story too.

On the Waterfront....top movie....Marlon Brando at the top of his game....unfortunately we are not.

Hawks are a good team but top 4 premiership contender I am not convinced. Any team bar ours can kick accurately, hit targets, etc etc when there is space, plenty of time and no bloody pressure. Curtail the influence of Buddy, Rioli, Lewis & Hodge if he gets back and they are beat. Their defence is so so, their rucks are standard, midfield group is strong and forwards dangerous.

I expected to lose because they have it over us but not to show any any urgency or fight is deplorable.

FWIW...Watching at the ground from under the stands I really couldnt tell but stats in paper as follows (please don't call me "Ratts"):
Overall hitouts: us 40, them 38
Warnock 27 at 44% efficiency; Kreuz 12 @ 25%; Hale 29 @ 17%; Roughie 9 @ 17%.
Funny game, football.

Seriously with the team we were able to field on Fridat night did anyone really expect us to win?

I am certainly not a defeatist but having a look at the lineups made tipping the winner fairly easy.

It's imposible to have a good structure when you don't have any key tall forwards. Hampson is not up to a key forward post but is only there because there is nobody else.

You can't be solid in defence when the only bloke tall enough to cope with Buddy is out.

You can't win the midfield with one A grader in the centre.

I have no problem with changing the coach but how will the new coach get us to win next week?

Same thing over again. No cattle to work with.

Once the structure breaks down it becomes a snowball of things not working which breads lose of confidence.

I know it's easy to blame injury but it is fact.
