Quote:
CARLTON great Alex Jesaulenko says the current Blues team won't be top four material until it finds a power forward who can mark and kick goals.

Speaking on Monday after being named captain of a 'multicultural team of champions' as part of AFL Multicultural Round, Jesaulenko painted a dire picture of Carlton's premiership hopes.

"They've certainly gone backwards a little bit," he said.

"Watching them, they need a power forward.

"Their backline is OK and their midfield is very, very good, but they've got no forwards.

"They'll still be up there, but I don't think they're top four material at this stage, until they get that forward."

The four-time premiership player and AFL team of the century member stopped short of suggesting the Blues lure Brendan Fevola back to Princes Park, instead saying a player in the mould of the club's president would be ideal.

"Not a Fevola, but maybe a 'Sticks' (Stephen) Kernahan type of player who can take a strong mark, settle things down, kick a goal," Jesaulenko said.

"It just comes out of that forward line too quickly."

Love Jezza and highly value his opinion, but this is "immediate post-Fev" thinking. The problems now go much deeper than not having a power forward.

Power forward yes.

More than two quality mids would help.

Typical sub-editor bullshit headline to attract the haters and Carlton fans.

I was unaware that Jezza used to post as Captain Obvious on TC.

We managed to get to 5th.

This year we will manage to get 8th if we are lucky.

Any more management and we'll be playing in the EFL.

Flower Jezza.

What did he ever do for the club.

And we kicked over 100 points in about 22 of our 24 matches (one we didn't was the GF)
I'm pretty sure it was a record

Great player but not sure he's a scholar of the game.

Dont worry about the 1979 side - they would eat our current side for breakfast - for his time Jezza knew how to get the most out of each and every player, they would walk over hot coals for him.

As for the power forward - Mark Maclure was our power forward for that 79 year (and for 81 and 82 as well) - he held down CHF and made sure that our small forwards like Ken Sheldon (who kicked 50+ goals in 79) walked very very tall indeed.

Jezza also turned a soft outside half forward player in Wayne Johnston into the tough inside mid-fielder.

Jezza as our coach in 78 and 79 was a man for his time and the right man for us.

Not ashamed to say I cried like a 7 year old boy when he left the club. Boyhood hero. Can't say a bad thing about him...

I remember the headlines in the paper
Jezza Blues crush Barrassi's Roos

He was the right man at the right timein 78 and 79

Different story when he came back for a second stint the players never really accepted his coaching methods

It may be obvious but its on the money. We will not threathen until we find a forward.

That PA shows how bad we play when we have noone to kick forward towards.

Why do you think Synbad was going on about setanta. He may not have been great but he was servicable and exactly what we needed.

I remember the '79 GF like it was yesterday.

I barely remember the '80, '81 or '82 GF's. It took till about '86 until I rediscovered my enthusiasm for Blues.
