Doggies every 60 years
Why does one have 70000 members and one struggles to attract 25000

You dont have to be to smart to work that out
People like winners are recent history is losing . Start to win more and they will come

Come on SB, we won 8 premierships in 27 years (1968 - 1995), where are our members????

I'm proud of how we got off our knees and pushing for a flag.
I hate where we're at though.
I hate the fact we have supporters who wont put a ticket against the current regime in fear of ridicule.

I think Sticks should leave the door ajar for a an alternate ticket to show their vision.
If there was a great alternative, it can only happen if Sticks made it happen.
He can't be interim President forever...like McAlister did at the old wooden spoon Collingwood.

I love Sticks the player and Carltonian.
I love Sticks to plot an perfect exit plan. We need it.
We have to all be inspired together.
At the moment we clearly are not.

A graceful exit is that he took on the job for the interim, it has been long enough, he has gone as far as he can go and it is time for someone else so he is stepping down at the next election. All this after there has done some discrete sniffing around to determine there is someone like H. Mitchell willing to step in.

Sounds like something Ratts could say as well (except maybe sooner).

They are there they just are not convinced yet that we are the right stuff

Correct me if I'm wrong but going from memory I believe our membership actually fell after the 1995 Grand Final and actually increased in the season after 2002.

No one actually gave a shit what a clubs membership figure was until about 2000 though - I certainly can't remember worrying about it

Been a busy day for this thread. I'll be taking a closer look and deciding if any action is needed.

Time for everyone to take a deep breath and let this thread get back on topic now.

A little advice though, if you suspect someone is having a lend, winding you up or 'trolling'...let them go. You're not obliged to engage them.

There a couple of old sayings about arguing with fools and idiots.

No idea why anyone's still responding to Denim Scarponi.

Clearly a wind up.

There's plenty of room for debate in this place and it's the reason most of us return time and time again but what's going on in here is obfuscation and has [REDACTED] up what was a good initial post by Doc Sherrin and turned it into a farce.

This place should and has been better than that but there are some here who don't seem to agree.

Let us know who wins the bet !

Personally i dont care about Collingwoods membership numbers or the money they make. The football world is made for Collingwood. Edge of town bogans with Swann and Beams style tatts love their Magpies with all their hearts. The hand over the money big time and they love their sponsors and make sure they eat as much Macca's as possible. For the Magpie marketing dept its like shooting fish in a barrel.

Id rather be what some have decided is average than like that filthy tribe.

Unfortunately for Carlton there are only so many intelligent sports lovers in Melbourne so their market is a bit smaller.

Go Blues !

No one is saying we should aspire to be Collingwood, Club. But that doesnt mean we cant learn some lessons from them.
Firstly, they work hard to engage their supporters. Do we work hard to engage our supporters? I dont believe we do.
We remove their voting rights. Did that disenfranchise some supporters? Possibly. Stiff shit, nothing changed.
The Spirit of Carlton debacle. Did that disenfranchise some supporters? Yes and rightly so.
Ratten telling security guards to throw supporters out of training sessions that aren't advertised as closed. Does that disenfranchise supporters? Absolutely.
Do we get on the phone and follow up lapsed supporters? No. too much like hard work.

So next time we want to bag Collingwood, perhaps we should pull our noses out of the air and realise they are not hoping for membership records or waiting for success to achieve it, they're making it happen.
I remember having this debate earlier in the year. Certain posters were telling me we'd hit 50k no worries. When I asked what we were doing to make it happen, I was told it would take care of itself. well, its played out as it should.
Those same posters were saying 'dont worry about the disenfranchised supporters, we'll get new ones to replace them"

Well hows this for a radical idea, lets try and engage new supporters AND retain all of our existing supporters. Perhaps we could ask our current members what is important to them and try delivering it.
Just like Collingwood have. But lets not copy them hey, they're bogans and fools. Top of the ladder bogans with record membership, excellent player development results and a recent premiership.

Well Collingwood is Australia's elite football club.

were better cos we are average....... 7th in memberships 7th in turnover..... and struggling to make the 8
our ecord for a decade is 3 wooden spoons and 1 elimination final win.

:screwy:

Lets get serious!!!

What do you mean when you say 'the club', do you mean the board, or the coach, or the president?

If you were a true supporter you would not care who was on the board or was coaching as long as the club was successful.

From reading your posts it sounds like the only thing you support is the board.

It posts non sequitors. It doesn't use the quote function (after being told repeatedly) forcing you to scroll back and forth if you want to follow the debate.

I know it looks like an idiot, sounds like an idiot, argues like an idiot, but don't let that fool you (thanks Groucho), it isn't. This is well thought out. This is a campaign to neutralise concerned supporters. It's never been more obvious to me than now.

Those of you engaging in providing facts or exchanging "opinions" are playing right into its game.

Talking about paranoia. Yeah I ignore plenty in here, as I am sure plenty ignore me. I choose the conversations I want to engage in. When board sacking come about I only deal with facts. I bring logic to your delusions as signified in your post.

Not with me, but dragging the club through the mud for no reason whatsooever - it seems it is stemming from an injury riddled season . Disagree with me as much as you like - of little concern..but the club is a whole other story.

In case you missed it, please see my post earlier.

This isn't a personal war between everyone and j.scarponi.

Not too many people want to be president of a football club.
