Its 4 players against 4. No excuses for being beaten so comprehensively in that situation.

We need some big changes to our set play coaching and quick.

Good post. Our "a" grade players have no defensive side to their game. Judd and gibbs in particular.

Gibbs no defensive side? ..... Ok then. Considering all he does is tag these days.

See how many times shuey got away from him and what sort of chases he Put on. Other than that he was decent.

Judd dropped mark turned the game

I reckon it was Joseph's clanger in the last that turned the game.
The guy has no composure and terrible skills.......ALWAYS coughs the ball up under pressure. Bloody always does!

Anyway I can see a few positives from tonight considering it was our 3rd consecutive 6 day turnaround, Yarran and Kreuzer not 100% and of course Murphy still to come back into the side.

if Judd hadnt dropped it the ball would have gone forward and Joseph wouldnt have done that stupid kick
Mind you Jamo shouldnt have dropped it either

Ifs, buts, maybes.

Here's a scenario. Judd marks it, centres it, shanks it. WC get the ball drill it forward and get a goal. The goal starts a barrage of 6 goals straight to WC. Lucky Judd dropped the mark.

Yeah, yeah, we lost anyway. But you change what actually happened and other things have to be different. Haven't you seen back to the future?

How could WC kick so badly and yet still win the game?....

Agree that the umpiring was diabolical, but we all expected it. They umpire to a certain style and we need to take advantage of it.

It doesn't matter these days how you dispose the ball, so instead of waiting for you opponent to take the ball, get in first and just get the bloody thing moving forward some how.

They are obsessed with high contact, so again - get in first or instigate the contact. Whilst Joseph was unlucky to be pinned for holding it in the goal square he had the perfect opportunity before that to take the hit low from the oncoming tackler.

On the forward line, a forward can get mauled in a pack, but a defender cant do anything in a one on one contest - see Judd on Cox. So structure up properly, isolate some talls one on one and get them to play in front etc etc.

....anyway. As others mentioned 40 minutes of good football the rest fairly ordinary. Eagles should have put us away early, as our first half was hopeless. No idea defending kickouts, or taking our own. Long kick to the HBF to NicNat looked about our only play.

Although Cox/Nat is the best in the busineess, so frustrated to be destroyed in ruck, considering it's supposed to be OUR strength.

Watson holding his own down back, allows Henderson to stay forward which I like, but at times doesn't look like he has the upper body strength to compete. The one on one where he was outbodied by Adam Selwood to the point where he had to turn his back on the player and ended up giving away a free kick highlighted this problem.

Really liked Robinson's 3rd quarter, and thought Duigan once again showed like he's getting back to 2011 form. Ellard is taking slow steps, but at least improving and Carrazzo I just love when he gets inside ball, plenty of tackles, and locks down on opponent rather than the 35+ outside games he was having 2 or 3 years back.

40 minutes of good football and not much else. Bar Henderson's 2 it seemed once agani most goals came from getting space out the back, which is not going to help us much going forward, especially once we get back to Etihad.

Going to be a long 2 weeks.

The game was for the taking and we failed to capitalise. We shouldn't have been behind on the scoreboard in the first place, to have to exert our all or most of our energy trying to make up the ground. It's an indictment on that group that ran out tonight to have a guy that's missed the last 8 weeks run out and be best on ground for us.
Our football club is in serious trouble.

Judd missed alot of the prep-season and it's certainly showing. As it is with quite a few others. Makes such a difference.

Hope it's temporary in Judd's case.

Which part of that was outrageous? Some of you guys have us written off before the first bounce, should've been making up numbers in the Carlton Hate Campaign at Pattersons tonight. We were far from perfect but given how incredibly tilted the scales were tonight there was lots to like. If we play with that intensity we're a chance any game. You're quick to explain away other teams, how about cutting your own a bit of slack and looking at what's going right? That third quarter showed what we can do, what we all know we can do. If they bring that to the Hawks at the G, are we or are we not in it? It's certainly doable and the win is there if we execute it.

Yep, that'll fix everything!

Liked how we stayed composed (in parts) against the close up pressure. More of that.

Dislike the way we play so 'fair'. Follow through hard on a spoil. Make a tackle hurt. Give em' something to think about!

Love Joseph... drop Jubb!

If Andrew Collins is wearing the green jacket, shouldn't he be called a Collins Class Sub?

Just sayin...

is it cue in the rack time? Do we just start putting all players that are going to need clean ups and post season ops in now and let them recover in time for pre-season. Play all our kids. Give them AFL experience. Play the rookies. Get ourselves into a decent draft position. In short take the West Coast 2010 route. Or the Collingwood 2005 route.

I am so [REDACTED] off with everything about the club right now. Ratten has had 5 years at the helm and got us to week 2 of the finals. We made finals in 2009. We have missed our window with him and Judd.

All we want is a power forward. Its what every second post is about. We had one and sold him along with our soul for arguably the best player of the last decade.

I don't even know where I'm going with this. So disappointed and disillusioned.

We keep putting honourable performances and come home with the boiled lollies and we accept this as a football club and publicly declare that - that is NOT Carlton. Sorry Ratts, sugar coat all you like, but we've been dishing up these sorts of losses over the years in your rein, including all our finals losses!!! How long do we have to wait for the wheel to turn our way and we win these games?

The main thing I don't get is this...

If Judd's having that bad a game and is seriously struggling with yet another Scott Selwood "event" why aren't we asking him to play a different game?

Why isn't he playing out of a forward pocket?

Or tagging someone else?

Or @#$%&! anything?

Because 10 or 11 huried touches in the middle is worth shit compared to what his replacement might get and what we might get out of him in a different role.

But then we don't seem to do different roles unless they're pre-prepared and everyone (including the opposition) are aware that they're on.

We'd never be so bold as to pull a stunt like that mid-game without talking about it during the week or at least during a quarter time "chat with Ratts".

I wish just once that someone had followed through, been nasty, really HURT one of the ducking Mifsuds and taken the two week penalty. Season is gone - time to get some nasty about us I reckon.
