It is little surprise that the 23-year-old watches Biff, Bumps & Brawls, a DVD of some of the AFL's wildest moments, before each game.

But he admitted recent rule changes clashed with his rugged approach and often had him at odds with the laws of the game.

"Football has changed a lot and I've had to adapt," he said. "In the past if someone was in your face you could have a crack about it, but it's all changed and I've had to change with the game. It's a fine line and Ratts (coach Brett Ratten) told me I have to change some of the ways I go in for the footy.

"I got reported last year against Brisbane for what I thought was a fair hit on Jack Redden and had points (93.75) hanging over me for the rest of the year.

"It's hard because if you go too hard you might get suspended and if you don't go hard enough you miss an opportunity to get the ball.

"In the end, I just have to play how I play and if I get suspended, I get suspended. You put your head over the ball and crack in and if you get a body and it's not deemed as fair, you can't do much about it and I'll cop it on the chin.

"The rules are changing all the time and you just have to be wary of how high you go or how low you go. I just have to make sure I don't think of anything else but that football when I see it."

Robinson said he had a nervous wait last weekend ahead of the match review panel assessing an off-the-ball retaliation on Geelong's Steve Johnson.

He knew there had been little contact and after watching a replay was heartened that the umpire in front of him who had seen the incident had chosen not to pay a free kick.
