Season is shot what do you personally want to see happen this season?

Make the eight win a final and have another season under rats?
Dont make the eight prepare for a new coach early?
Make the eight lose first final and ratts stays because injuries he see out the last year of his contract?
Win the premiership and resign ratts for 5 years?

I'll take option two clearly. Option 4 is for those who believe in the Tooth Fairy.

Ah well, I think any poll that has "win the flag" as one of the alternatives, probably needs a bit more thought.

Its possible if we make the eight and happen to peak... We have a great list that when fit and in finals are good enough to beat anybody in spite of who is coach

You would take option 4 in a heartbeat but unfortunately reality tells us that option 2 is on the cards.

The conundrum is whether winning the flag is the best thing for the club long term. Obviously i would take a flag any day of the year but after watching collingwood play to their structures and their ability to approach every game with the same attitude that was in built into their culture years ago and they have maintained it. We are still a team with no leadership, no structure one week and a champion team the next. No consistency.

Sydney
collingwood

Coaches that had non negotiables which have kept both sides in good stead even after there gone.

Ratten 5 years and he still is far from impressive in the press conferences after losses, far from impressive with his selections, far from impressive with his ability to keep the players grounded and hungry for every game

Only results matter.

Win a flag and worry about the other shit later.

If its that bad after the flag, sack the coach, pay him out and get another one.

our recruitment is to blame here too

we have spent too much time and focus on recruiting 'nice guys'

supposedly level headed introverted mummy's boys

i even remember reading an article or hearing it or something that we talked that up

we need some @#$%&! in the team, some mongrel , some leadership

mummy boys and half back flankers lol

all too precious and leading teams just panders to this preciousness

i dont think ratts has the free reign to blast these pansies because they would all just wilt and go into their shell

if they havent already

Put a line through Russell, AJ, Bower.
Get games into Watson, Lucas, Bootsma, Buckley, Dale and possibly Casboult, Kerr, Mitchell, ROK & McCarthy.
Develop a back 6 to serve for the 6-10 years consisting of Jamo, Watson, Laidler, Duigan, Yarran, Bootsma, Collins. Development.
Judd to play as a pure outside player floating between defence and attack.
Gibbs to play as a pure running link midfielder. Needs to develop ala Stanton type.
Betts, Garlett to play more midfield.
Development of an inside group of midfielders Ellard, Robinson, Touhy, Carrazzo.
Henderson to play as a permanent CHF.
Walker to play deep forward.
Only play 1 or 2 ruckman per game.
Work on more contested ball game plan.

I would like the airlines to go on strike this Thursday until next Thursday and the AFL give WCE and Carlton 2 points each.

Storms might do the job for us.

The weather is diabolical here ATM.

We can't get any of these players, none left, everyone else grabbed them.

Option four just to see Synners head explode.

although I reckon option one is the most likely.

Anyone that takes anything other than option 4 has serious issues.
Why wouldn't a Carlton supporter want Carlton to win the premiership?

With a full list, I can still see us equalling last year.

Make the eight, win a final, lose week 2 (75% chance would be interstate or Collingwood) and then replacing the coach.

Which is why I dont like the "top 4 or gone" clause, just as last year I did like the "must win a final" clause (if one's do/did actually exsist). Surely it's not that simplistic?

Despite all our problems whose to say that at full strength is it that highly unlikely that we couldn't scrape into the 8 and beat a St Kilda, or Geelong in Week 1?

We then go into Week 2 with Ratten's entire future being decided on 1 game. Surely a decision like that needs to be made on all the evidence in front of you from the last 5 years and 6 weeks (recruiting, drafting, player development, injuries etc), rather than - like last year - having it all hinge on 2 hours of football.

I agree. We spent the pre-season losing because we (apparently) had a longer term plan. We're going to spend a lot of time losing now anyway over the rest of the season. Would like to think that we can do it in a way that shows at least it's part of some longer term plan for the benefit of the team and some of our individual players.

Only points I differ on, are to see Lucas given an extended run as a small defender. And Collins developed as midfield/forward.
I haven't absolutely given up on Bower. But if we're going to play him, please play him in defence.
And I don't know quite what to do with Russell. Has some genuine and terrific AFL attributes. Just seems to have completely lost all confidence.
