He's super fit and having his arm in a sling did not prevent from doing some running whilst out, think how well Tex played v Freo first game back, both lads have excellent aerobic capacity.

That's hardly the point. I'd like to hear how the AFL justifies this scheduling. Why is there a game on a Thursday night in R12 anyway, FFS!

:banghead:

Thursday ... ???? ... Well Flower Me -- It is too. WTF!!!!
What is it with our club and playing games on stupid days at stupid grounds.

(I'm old school -- Sat. arvo at the 'G every week would do me).

Yep, this will be our third Thursday night game and add to that a Monday night too. A joke.
Seriously does anyone know why we are playing Thursday night?

No way Garlett will be dropped. He was unlucky not have kicked 2-3 goals against Geelong and his forward pressure and tackling were right up there with his best for the season.

Garlett unlucky not to have kicked 2-3 goals???

Garlett's kicking at goal has been [REDACTED] all season, I almost wouldn't back him to kick it if he was in the goal square.

WCE may end up with more free kicks than we do disposals, the umps love them that much over there.

Agreed, although it does throw you out, you arrive at work Friday morning feeling a little confused.

It's a shame there's no VFL game this week, would love Kerr to have shown even a glimpse of something, because I don't think Garlett really deserves his spot in the team at the moment. It's this lack of pressure on positions that kills effort.

Boots and Watto showed they love the big stuff even without tearing apart the lower league, would love Kerr to be able to do the same thing.

That's a pretty fair point, Garlett has needed a kick in the arse for a while.

I thought Garlett's pressure and work rate was much better in the first half last night. In fact I thought he was really likely to make his mark on the game in the second half and do something special... but nothing.

In general his defensive pressure has been a real strength of his game. Not so much in 2012. :(

Thornton? WTF? Does anyone actually look at his stats rather than what he actually contributes? Whilst Hampson has been down the past few games, he can AT LEAST ruck and is far more mobile than Thornton. He has better stats than Thornton in virtually every facet of the game.

Hampson is not in the same ballpark as Thornton. The project is over.

If that is so then that is sad in a number of ways.

Ignorance! The MC had 3 choices this week in regards to Yarran:

1) dont start him as the sub - plays atleast 3 quarters, but isnt fully match fit so may not run out the quarters too well = potential liability

2) dont play him - Not 100% fit for AFL level so perhaps giving him a game in the 2's will help - BUT THE BULLANTS HAVE A BYE!!!!

3) start him as a sub - plays a quarter and a bit at full pace - at least gets some run in the legs and will be better for it....

Clearly the best option for the team was 3! People need to start looking at the bigger picture! I have my issues with Ratten and the MC too, but seriously we are becoming hysterical!

Option 4 start him and leave him in the forward line.
We have been struggling in the forward line and have our defenders back.
He would have burnt off the Geelong backline whith the other two.

You have to be joking right? I'm not sure if you think AFL footballers are super human, but Yarran has missed a ton of footy. Any sportsmen knows that there is no substitute for match fitness. If Yarran starts the game on the ground and plays at least 3 quarters, you would be on here saying how he has gone backwards this year and looks slow.
He isn't fit! There was no bullants game! We need him to get fit!
Yes we could've let him play an average 3 quarters to get extra run in his legs, but then we jeopardize the team so that Chris Yarran gets fitter faster. RIDICULOUS!

Again, i have my issues with Ratts and the MC, but common sense needs to prevail on this site at least some of the time!!!!.......right..??

You can't use the sub so early in a game. It is there as a reserve in the military sense. You use it at the strategically best time. Before half time isn't it. Most clubs use it at or just before 3/4 time in case they have an injury. By 3/4 time they usually decide they can run out the game with 3 on the bench even if someone else goes down. Plus, having fresh legs helps in the run home.
I don't think Yarran should ever be the sub, regardless of how he is used. He is too important a player to watch from the sidelines.

Blue Sombrero - obviously i wasn't clear as i assume you are confusing point 3.
Play a quarter and a bit refers to Yarran coming on and doing that, not the team doing that and then bringing Yarran on....

Again, in normal circumstances, where the list is fully fit, Yarran would never be the sub. EVER! But when the bullants have a bye, and he is not 100% fit, it makes sense....

am I the only one that sees this?

Fair point BKB, but I think he'll go straight into seniors without a NB game, not expecting him to dominate, though, but he'll be better than the player he replaces. He's also got a great record @ Subi.
