  how many times over the last 3 seasons do we kick ourselves out of games - either by deplorable field kicking or worse still kicking for goal -good sides mature sides dont or arent the team that continually kicks 2 goals 9 - for god sake DO something about it - we have people who continually miss from 20 metres dead in front - make the players take responsibility and kick the clutch goal - when Yarran is missing from dead in front there is something seriously wrong - love Jeffy but we knew that shot before three quarter time was always going to be a point

We lost the corresponding game against Geelong last year because of poor kicking for goal

What about the 3 misses in the first quarter -all gettable goals all would have made it much harder for Geelong to come back in the second quarter - any danger of when you are dominant in a game put the other team to the sword - not good enough - no one wants to take responsibility to kick the goals and apart from 2 shots in from in front that we of course missed we continued to try to score goals from extreme angles in the pocket - everyone wants to lay off even if 45 meters out

stop talking about the wheel turning around after being beaten by 12 points after kicking 2 goals 9 points in the last quarter and losing 4 out of the last 6 games and in the other 2 shrugged off the bottom 2 sides - the wheel hasnt turned around the wheels being turned into the bloody iceberg - what of the next 3 games hawthorn west coast collingwood -CRICKET SEASON DEFINITELY STARTED EARLY THIS YEAR

What happened after the behinds was just as important.

From our first 4 behinds in the last quarter they kicked 3.1 directly from kick outs. Coast to coast without us even touching it.

Pathetic

Like everything about our club unreliable, flaky and lacking in poise.

I thought the missed shots in the first quarter were real killers as well.

That high risk, hig hreward sh*t that Ratten was going on bout sure paid off..... NOT!!!
If theres no solid structures to deal with kick ins, then of course this will happen.
And then people wonder why we're so hard on Ratts....

Can only kick them on the snap nowadays.
For someone so skillful Yazz doesn't actually take too many of his opportunities either. Wont go into Simmo or Jeffy the poster boy

By my count we had 6 posters. There is a bit of bad luck involved there.

Posters aren't bad luck, they're bad accuracy.

We had the chance to speak with Ratts on that infamous cancelled training day due to wet weather in 2010. Even back then, I bought up with him our terrible innacuracy in front of goal (and high number of free`s paid against us). He dismissed this as just bad luck and part of the game.
It made me wonder whether other clubs took a similar low key approach to goal kicking. Surely this is something you take seriously and work hard on to gain an advantage.

You should get 10 points for hitting the post because it is harder to hit

In the pre-game warm up, the players weren't missing. Seriously nearly every shot went through.

Pressure and fatigue is something our players need to deal with and I'm looking at you Yarran/Gartlett/Simpson

I have a mate who is ''in'' the know at Hawthorn; and they all pissed themselves when we appointed John Barker as our Forwards Coach.....they couldn't believe it....they had a very low opinion of him at Hawthorn.

We have no forward line structure....none at all......kick it to Betts or to a big pack is about it; and didn't it show up last night?

Actually to be fair Pre Barker was just as crap as post Barker except Fev papering over this deficiency by doing the unbelievable....now it's Betts having to do the unbelievable....

I don't think it would matter who was forwards coach (and besides...Darren Harris works on goalkicking more often than not). Goalkicking is exactly the same as serving in tennis. You can practice by yourself. And you never rest on your laurels...you keep practicing and practicing until you get it right. Chris Judd is a shocking kick for goal. He even holds the ball the wrong way...yet no one has pulled him up on it. Why not? And part of the blame lies with junior coaches? We have better grounds, better boots, better video analysis, better prepared footballers yet....Kicking for goal has gone backwards.

Should practice goal kicking after 20 km runs....

Exactly.

People used to laugh at Matthew Lloyd when he picked up the grass and watched for the wind at Docklands but he had a routine and he stuck to it. And it worked.

It's just laughable that we don't have a player in the team that has a solid routine for set shots. It's completely teachable and players should be made to do it. Don't do it and get dragged.

So @#$%&! basic.

Improve set shot accuracy by just 10% and we'll win a couple of close games extra every year.

Anyone who thinks this is not about forward structures is seriously deluded.

It is pretty simple. If you keep shooting from deep in the pockets, most of the time you are going to miss.
