we received over $5 million in govt & AFL grants over the course of three or so years. AFL gave us a piddly $3 million carrot to leave Optus at the time & the $2 million loan the AFL that gave us and was signed in 2006 Fitzy was an independant advisor..that gleefully moved us to TD to appease his AIX shareholders. AAMI park in Melbourne was a govt funded stadium , state of the art costed $200 MLN from scratch. We could have easily gone into partnerships; plentiful of infrastructure companies around the globe that would have been interested, govt grants, investors inclusive..providing the idea & plan was there. Unlikely it can still be done today, Geelong is spending a small packet to upgrade their stadium. We would have been in debt today but a very large asset on the books.. unlikely there would have been an AAMI stadium today if there were multi-year joint tenenacy agreements with Storm and later Rebels.. too late now. Going back to the govt and AFL grants that would have easily covered interest payments providing it was in a partnership agreement.. i.e Bosch Stadium etc...
Partnerships?
Who would go into partnership with an entity that is on its knees.
We were millions of dollars in debt. We couldn't pay our bills on a week to week basis so we were technically insolvent.
You're totally ignoring our financial predicament and waffling on about AAMI stadium and Geelong. Totally irrelevant.
Should we have pushed harder to gain an MCG option? Possibly but to suggest Princes Park could have been developed as a 40k stadium with an underground carpark displays a total ignorance of the issues that existed.
