look i dont really take too much stock of his emails or press conferences, after a shitful performance like against port - he's on a hiding to nothing , there isnt a thing in all reality he could say (apart from i quit) that would appease most

but to come out and single out one player by name for 'an incident' is appalling

two 50s and an incident

seriously ?

Just received Ratt's weekly "analysis" off the game for members. I don't think it will calm any concerns members have.

Quote:
Dear Xxxxxxx

Having jetted back into Melbourne early on Sunday morning and taken a little time to gather my thoughts, I've identified a number of deficiencies which set the tone for our bitterly disappointing display against Port Power at AAMI Stadium on Saturday evening.

The die was cast early on in the piece with a series of undisciplined acts involving our players. Two 50-metre penalties, together with a quick reversal arising from an incident involving Shaun Hampson, set us back at a time when we were very much in the contest.

The second quarter came along and in the adverse weather conditions the opposition players simply adjusted better. It was also through this crucial period that they raised their intensity at the ball and the ball carrier, so much so that over the course of the first six or seven minutes we had something like 14 kicks and 18 handballs - which best reflected our overuse of the footy and our inability to make up any territory.

The Port players conducted themselves particularly well here. They outplayed us in midfield and generally surged forward with greater momentum, which in those wet and slippery circumstances gave them that crucial scoreboard ascendancy.

To top it all off, we fell away at the back end of the game. Some of the goals we conceded late in proceedings were extremely deflating and typified the type of night we had. In short, we got gun-shy with our ball movement and we turned the footy over whenever we tried to switch the play. That really hurt us too.

Josh Bootsma followed on with his good form of last week, while Matthew Watson was a fairly serviceable performer in his development, considering the opposition accumulated 61 'inside 50s'.

But with only a six day turnaround, there is no time to dwell. Our energies are now focused on rectifying our deficiencies and getting the four points against Geelong.

Kind Regards]

This is a description of the game befitting an average journalist. It is completely descriptive and has no proactivity, no responsibility, no accountability, and no real indication of anything changing.

I don't really blame Ratts - he is out of his depth here, but more likely, he had nothing to do with it.

This is a communication from the club to its members. Is this the best the communications department can do? A little match report befitting the Herald Sun?

And did Swan know this was going out? At this critical point, was he not all over this?

And has Sticks now hauled Swan, McKay, the Comms Dept over the coals?

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Accountability!

Unless of course there was a clear directive given to Shaun not to do something - and he did it. Then - I'm fine with it, but he could have (if indeed Ratts wrote it) singled out 15 others whose work ethic around the ground wasn't up to scratch either. Either way - he has to do it, but I'd prefer this type of thing come from the captain or one of the assistants.

what is it that Hampson did?

In any case, it's poor form to single out one person...

He singlehandedly caused our 10 goal drubbing over the weekend....

Yep...but we're clutching at straws by guessing if it's Ratts unedited, dictated, edited, post-it notes scrambled into an article by Year 10 work experience student or John Barkers ghostwriter. Either way - the article itself going to 40-odd thousand email boxes is pretty bad writing...and for it to be the first thing members see on a Monday morning...well, put it this way - nothing surprises me anymore from our comms dept.

Well name a side that plays well without it's top two defenders (Henderson, Laidler), best ruckman (Kruez), two of its top midfielders (Murph and Carrots) and its number one lead up forward target (Waite)...

Pretty much Carlton's turning point in the season was when Carrots left the field against Essedon. We miss that ball magnet immensely.

Key is to get as much contested marking, ball winning drills in to breech the gap.

"Collingwood"...Reid, Tarrant, Brown and Keefe are all out and yet they seem to be able to continue to play well in fact they have now won 7 in a row...

Last time we won 7 in a row was in 2000.

Just hear Warnock's presser on SEN. Wanted to head butt the wall. Players are not hurting or embarrassed.

Actually our media performance reminds me of Tigers under Wallace.

Summary of nothingness? "you always will have losses" " we are focussing on next week" etc etc
