So what type do we need to lead the club a corporate investment banker? They're the biggest $#^% there are.
I trust Sticks that does the best of the club at heart and frankly providing he has sound advisors around him, that's all that matters - he is going great in fact better than great...booming sponsorship, booming membership, booming television audiences, booming match attendences y-o-y..improved match performances clean balance sheet.. why the hell do you want to change this?
Rubbish. Booming voice.... that's about it.
So if one deosnt agree with you, its rubbish. No evidence whatsoever why Sticks hasnt done his job well and met his KPI's unless you can provide proof and evidence I have a tendency to think about these things such as evidence, but for now, the rubbish is not on me.
KPIs?
When Bernie Brookes took over Myer he had a set of KPIs to meet and he did a great job doing them. They included things such as selling assets, reducing staff overheads and generally making the business look like its financials were on an upward trajectory. The problem with KPIs like that is they have nothing to do with having a broader understanding of the long term needs of an organization and what's best for it and its various stakeholders.
What happened next was predictable. Myer was floated based on flimsy projections that resulted from one-off changes (asset sales, staff reductions etc) and then proceeded to tank as the reality of what Brooke's had done sunk in. Sadly an iconic Australian company is now a shell with bugger all assets and has been dumped by it's customers because its service is crap.
Why did this happen?
Brookes was only ever there to make his organization look like it was operating well. What he didn't have was a vision for Myer 5, 10, 20 or 50 years down the track.
We have a similar problem at Carlton.
We have a club with bugger all connection to its supporters (customers), has sold assets (draft picks) for a quick short term fix and appears to be flailing around in the dark after the initial excitement of that sale ready pump priming.
Our "vision" is to win flags and be successful. Guess what? That's not a vision? That's just the base aspiration of every club in every sporting association on the planet.
Where's the vision?
How can an "interim President" seriously have the club's long term best interests at heart?
I have no doubt that Kernahan loves the club and would do anything for it but he appears to have grown comfortable in his "interim" role and I'm not seeing anything that remotely suggests a vision for what we might become.
If he really wants to do what's best for the club he should step aside and allow a regeneration of the organization.
