Neither of these 2 could command anything significant at the moment. I'm prepared to let either of them go for Boak.

mm. I think it's Greg Denham isn't it?
Deeper voice than Ralphy. :-D

Greg Denham just makes up things as he goes. Usually there has been no research at all ... constantly being caught out.

This morning he said we would have to get rid of Gibbs or Kruezer to free up enough money. Fair dinkum ... the guy just says things for effect.

Next year we have Waite and Simpson salaries halved (10 year rule). We have possibly 2 players Warnock and McLean (both on 400000/year) who might go. Russell might also be gone come 2013.

If Carlton really wants Boak ... they can easily free up some money ... the real question is how we would satisfy Port.

Don't believe anything Greg Denham says ... I reckon he is the worst out of all the journos.

Don't believe that any 'slipup' from Ratts or McKay (or anything any journo says) in a press conference is going to have any bearing on negotiations with player managers. Most of them will know as much about our salary cap situation as we do and would know more about what players can get somewhere else. You can also disregard what they say.

Really??

How many games have you seen Boak play. ?

I'm struggling to find anyone who've seen him play more than 4 or 5 times.

Being in S.A and seeing a Port game most weeks Boak hasn't had a brilliant year. Along with Hartlett has been heavily criticized for being tagged out of the play too easily. Had a few good games and has obvious class, but probably wouldn't even be top 5 in their B&F atm.

Can't say I watch him especially closely.

Yep, Bomber Thompson know how to spin the company line, re Ryder and Stanton.

Yet the Scum still bent over to give Ryder and Hurley four and five year deals to ward off suitors. Over the top and early offers before round ten. Especially for Ryder who hasn't had a consistent season before this year. A strategy that we don't appear to be following with two and three year contracts on the table to re-sign our talent. Our players don't sound like they're out for money alone.

Forget topping up with other players.
Unless it's a player for player swap, I wouldn't be interested. I'd like to see us draft some 18 year olds and actually develop them into quality AFL players.
Just a question, how many young players have we drafted, improved and developed into quality AFL players in the past 5 years?

No. I'd be interested to read some answers.
If the timeline is too tight, lets make it the past 6 or 7 years.

Discounting the obvious #1s.

Robbo, Tuohy, Yarran, Ellard, Garlett and to a lesser extent Joseph. All players who came to us with limitations that have been worked on and improved over their time with us. Yarran especially.

Strike rate of less than one a year in that time period isn't pretty...

Barcelona and Real Madrid have the best youth systems and development set ups in the world some say its worth $300 MLN with the best youth coaches in the world and yet their starting eleven consists of players they traded for... just sayin. It's in our theme song live with it... With all the champions they like to send us, We’ll keep our end up.

1 players from the national draft in 5 years excluding top 10 picks?
Perhaps we should look at improving our own development program instead of sponging off the good work of others.
Getting in ready made players is the soft option IMO.

Yes, I'm sure the salary cap and drafting restrictions were alive and well when they penned the song. Great argument.

I thought we were having a serious discussion but you're obviously here to take the piss.
Obviously I'm a bit slow to catch on.
