Hey BS, disagree violently about your opinion on Bootsma and Collins games. Thought they both played extremely intelligent games, with both showing deft skills and balance

Rapt for Collins after his shithouse debut last year.

Totally agree with that. May we see more!
McLean excellent.
Jamo just has poise as Clark can play.
Ellard played his best game for the club in a Carrazzo style lock down role where he got his own ball.
Robinson BOG and, at times, Juddesque with poise.

Now?
Three talls? Can someone explain to Hampson and Kreuzer that they are actually huge units and do not need to mark bolt upright? That job is surely easier if it is in front of your face. To have them leading up was a pure folly and to whomever said that Hampson is the quickest player at Carlton? You and Craig Thomson are from the same school of truth.

Forgot? 206 was awesome
Jeffy? You were lazy looking to go to ground and for the cheap ones out the back.
AJ and Ed? Battlers really but needed with the number of outs.
Army? Greater than the above.
1AW? The 3 tall structure does not work for him but his midfield stuff in the second half was superb.

Not overly impressed with todays game.
Disposal and decision making under acceptable levels.
No intensity apart from Robbo.
Either the players are lazy and stupid and can't do the job asked of them or
the coach's can't get thier message across or are stupid and can't do the job asked of them.

Why even look for positives, Melbourne are not even pea heart status, I mean let's kick it around defensive 50 until Carlton players intercept and kick a goal. What an absolute rubbish team they are.

Thought the three rucks worked well, Hampson didn't really ruck I suppose. He was impressive as a key forward, loomed up and defenders struggled to spoil him.

Still had many kicks inside 50 where Eddie was the target even though he was on Garland...even though there was 15-20cm difference in height the players still kicked it to him. What a pathetic system having Eddie as the leading forward and expecting him to somehow outmark a key defender. He might mark it if the kick is perfect but often it isn't.

Walker was good in the midfield, provided some pace. Would like to see more of it.

Smashed them in the clearances.

Warnock's game was very good for a first up performance, 34 hitouts and 6 clearances. His hands were very good when the ball was on the deck.

Not a very impressive performance, but a 10-goal win in the end is a decent result.

Couple of observations:

- Bootsma seems to have "it", will obviously take a bit of time but looks like he can play. Might be in trouble in the short-term though for putting Green in hospital?
- Garlett does not put his head over the ball and has not for some time. He takes the soft option by sticking an arm out. Not good enough and this has to be drummed out of him.
- McLean was great apart from a couple of poor kicks and needs to be given a run of games. Don't drop him after next week if he doesn't play like he did today. He can still play an important rule for us but only if he gets some continuity.
- Great games from Robinson and Ellard (both possibly best for the club)?
- Bower isn't really playing badly, but he is an absolute bombscare whenever the ball is in the vicinity or he has the ball in his hands. Still too many silly errors, such as a kick to a bloke 25m away not reaching him on the full etc.
- I might have posted this before but does anyone else reckon Kreuzer routinely runs too far under the ball? Needs to give himself more chance to actually run at the ball.

It's hard to judge the three talls structure when our defensive forward pressure fell below zero this week. The ball would hit the deck and was run out repeatedly whilst Jeffy and co looked on (remember when he used to tackle...??).

When the big fella knock it to the ground, that's when Eddie, Jeffy and Walks should be mopping up.

Considering the opportunities in the team at the present, I was astounded by the number of players not stepping up... Well done to Warnock, Brock, Robbo, Boots, Collins and Ellard - but Lucas turned into The Phantom, yet again (just 3 hand passes and a lot of running around waving our arms).

Is Armfield hurt - I was surprised to see him subbed?

Thankfully, it was just Melbourne...

It does seem to happen quite often - his opponents appear to gently nudge him under the ball. He can't hold his ground.

I'll take the win anyday, and by 10 goals regains some lost percentage.
We won't be allowed to play like that against mediocre teams, so a long way to go.
The experiment of 3 ruckman was tried and failed today. Kreuzer needs a rest. Should leave him in Melbourne (not play him) and send him to the magoos the week we play Geelong for some much needed form.
Warnock proved today he is the No.1 ruck. Players that came in showed they can step up, but will be tested against quality opposition.
We are treading thin ice still.

Hard to get a good gauge on anything really in terms of game style due to the poor opposition.

Warnock however was very good first up and Hampson stepped up with leadership in the forward line to put his stamp on the game.

As others have said Brock did well but against premiership contenders it might be a different story. He's in the best shape he's been in since arriving and has some miles in his legs so he stays while we're undermanned.

We're losing too many one on one contests and I wonder whether strength has something to do with it. Are our guys to lean ? Could they do with a touch more bulk on their frames ?

Warnock is in our best 22. Walker looks the obvious choice to cover Murph. His second half run was good.
Thought Hampsons marking around the ground was good.

Bower appears to be treading water.Again today he gave it up several times. Curnow is a battler. Jeffy struggled. Gibbs serviceable but Im still looking for much more out of him.

Bower did a good job and I can only think of 1 poor kick and even that went out and not to them.

He makes the wrong decision...often.

Did what was required, but still out of form. Hopefully we can win next week, and then we face a similarly out of sorts Geelong in R11. Next 2 games will show if we are starting to get back on track.

Id love to see the stats on scoring shots gained from entries directed to Betts. Whether its from the entry itself or after the next stoppage or repeat fifty. I reckon it would be quite high. He doesnt seem to get outmarked. Stays on his feet and you dont see the ball getting whisked away to often. Could be more effective a plan than it seems.
Well it must be because over the years we have been doing it regularly. Had 3 or 4 forward coaches in that time too.

It is something i will keep my on.

Pretty much agree with most other posters. Was one of the few who turned up. Loved Robbs's game, Ellard was great and good to see McLean play well. Hope Collins is ok. I think Bootsma will become one of my favourites, for a skinny kid he shows a bit and is a good kick.
Take the 4 points.

In: Yarran, Henderson, Waite
Out: Kreuzer (rest), Curnow, Bower

seems to make sense.
