Waite has a conditional third year option.
Basically the condition is that he asks for it to be taken.

One thing we need to get right in this game is our defence.

If Hendo is playing back then one of Bower or Duigan need to go. Sunday we were rotating Hendo Jamo Bower and Duigan through the interchange in the first half and we shouldn't need to do that.

2 talls
1 medium
2 mids/runners
Yarran

Not sure Russell can count as a mid either. If Hendo goes forward then its Russell or Duigan as third tall.

Aren't Henderson and Duigan under injury clouds?
Have no confidence at all about this game.
Glad we are finally away from Etihad, 3 games in a row and look at our injury toll.

Betcha Thornton will get dropped. He rarely gets more than one game, then gets dropped and doesn't play in twos...........how's a bloke supposed to get some continuity?

I like T-Bird and he certaintly wasn't alone but looked like he was disinterested and played with very little passion.
I don't care anymore on who's in or out or who lines up where as long as they come to play and play like they want to play.
Imagine the whole world calling you weak and you doing nothing about it - week in, week out!!!

This is a game where a win will not suffice. We must destroy them.

If we have to work hard for a win on Sunday consider our season over and expect a loss against Port the following week.

I can't look!!

That's the problem..................

If we loose, we're crap!
If we win by a 1 or 2 goals, we're crap!
If we pump em by 60+ points............. we're bullies.

The only way we could half redeem ourselves is to do what Geelong did to Richmond in 07 and win by about 150.

We will be lucky just to win, let alone slaughter them. It looks like we are bringing in a few younger guys, so this is not going to be one sided.

The real test will come when we play a top-eight side.

It's no good beating-up or showing improvement against the Dees and Port if we get bent over again by West Coast, Hawthorn and co. That's the real challenge.

Pity we didn't have the Dawks this weekend. :yikes:

Who are the geniuses that decided it would be a good idea to give Waite a three year deal?

The same geniuses who wanted to offer Bradshaw a multi year contract...

And went after Kosi for about $700,000 a year IIRC .... but lets not get started.

We are in a difficult position as far as dropping players is concerned, the 2's have a bye next week so it makes it difficult for any dropped players to find touch unless the MC commit to having them out for a few weeks and I would not reward ordinary performances with the luxury of a rest.

I say we drop the players who need to be dropped for a minimum of 3 weeks and look at reinstating based on performance after that, this will also have the affect of costing us against West coast and Geelong but I can't think of another way.

The other problem is who do we bring in?

It has already been discussed that the list is thin and we are struggling for guys that could come in and play to the standard required.

So at the end of the day I don't know what can be done and there is no point dragging out the sack the coach and recruiters argument as that is not going to solve the problem in the immediate term.

Ah, the classic no win situation.

A conundrum indeed

so partly we must rejig the backline and give ourselves more runners (something Club's been on about for eons).

Send Hendo forward

and get Yarran back with maybe Simmo (how would he go on a small? Or bring in Bootsma for a run on a small?

Gibbs onball or HFF

Maclean in for Murph?

Thornton would still be unlucky in my book, as he should have been swung into defence when Henderson went forward. Not being used correctly by the coach at present and is being punished for the fact that he can't harass like a small when the ball hits the deck.

If they're serious about ball winning ability:

Out: Duigan, Russell, Murphy (inj.), Kreuzer (inj.)

In: Buckley, McLean, Lucas, Waite

On a short leash: Betts, Garlett, Ellard, Gibbs, Curnow

Perfect opportunity to come up with some counter for the opposition tactics at stoppages, Melbourne will surely attempt to emulate them.
