So no designated roles to the midfield?

Losing a contested ball is one thing. We won a few on the weekend, but they were so rushed and under pressure that they were ineffective.
Adelaide and St Kilda before them won clean ball and had time to set up.
That indicates that there is a lack of effort/spirit.

Judd on the outside of Brock for once!

THIS

The way teams play us there is no outside except HBFs.

I dont mind Brock in and i dont mind Judd inside. We have to engage in the fight and not continue to play it the way we have done for 2 years.

Three options i feel.

- Find a bunch of blokes that win the contests easy enough that we can run it the way we want.

- Get better at engaging in the congested slog and see if this lets us outscore the opposition.

- Set up in a way where we know we are going to lose the contested ball but because of our set up we can get it back further afield then rebound. Total shift in game style.

1 and 2 seem the most obvious.

3 would require a major overhaul of the footy we play. I don't hold much hope as the guy's we have , have struggled to come to terms with something as basic as accountable footy, which you can probably never abandon no matter what you style you play.

Interesting. Very out of character by Ratts to come out and write something like that.

Let's hope he puts his money where his mouth is at the selection table and send some strong messages.

It was a similar message to after round 18 2010. It certainly had the desired effect then.

True, this is our lowest ebb since then. Stakes are higher now though, more is expected.

Yeah he done nothing but is a big solid unit in the midfield. Maybe Ratts thinks he could come in and show some grunt and throw his size around.

I wouldn't put it past him.
He was bagged all week by Walls and co for being on the bench and all of them said it's time he went back into the box so he could see the game. Where was he on sunday arvo ??......Up in the box !!!!!

They also mentioned that BRYCE should go back into the guts and play run with roles and not on the HBF. Where did Bryce line up for the first time this year????....... Yep you guessed it in the middle.

Let's see how many BIG changes he makes to the side this week.

At the moment he is a canoli.........full of CREAM...

vanilla canoli....

actually i love studying people...

so im going to take special interest in watching Ratts under pressure.

Personally i think he will start getting all knee jerk.
I said that to Princes Park Whistler a couple of weeks ago.

Hes never been truly tested since he started his coaching stint.

I think late 2010 he was under pressure, but this is that pressure ramped up a few notches.

Reactive.........That's the word that comes to mind about him as a coach.

Smashed in Clearances and stoppages....yet Betts and garlett who both have had little impact over the past couple of weeks have never been put into a centre bounce to shake things up. I rate these 2 as our best readers from a ruck tap situation.

Walker finally gets a crack in there but alas it's not until the final quarter.

He put Bower yes Bower forward then mid way through the third term virtual game over he finally decides to put hendo up there.

After the first term it was VERY clear that Dangefield was the standout player and i half expected Army to go to him.
NO Army was stuck in the back pocket.
Russell, Duigan and Tuohy look lost and uncertain.

The deal clincher for mine was YARRAN as the sub............

It was an absolute joke to put our best playmaker and ball user as a sub.

If he isn't right don't play him.

He has a chance to turn things around before he is unofficially sacked by TC  I reckon two weeks to tweak the gameplan and get on the attack again and be fully prepared for the big test against Geel, Eagles, Haw and Coll. If we win four of the next six he will have done a great job.
