Just watched the last video. Puts a lot of things in perspective. Easy to froth at the mouth over footy games but Duigan looks like a class bloke and looks like he is doing something to have an impact in people's lives well beyond footy. Certainly calmed me down a bit since yesterday.

Good call. Really a class guy. Form average at the mo but character is really important and he has loads of it.

Maybe we can book a group session with Duigan.

While we are totally off the boil, I think Adelaide deserve a bit of credit as well. They really are flying at the moment and were superb yesterday. I think they would have beaten just about anyone on the day.

The body size issue is an odd one. We always appear physically smaller and less imposing than just about every opposition side. A few years ago, I always thought that as a young and inexperienced side which was still developing, it was natural that we lacked size and strength and that this would improve gradually as we continued to develop. But while the team itself improved, it doesn't appear as though the bodies got any bigger. Adelaide physically monstered us yesterday; even GWS a few weeks ago had some really solid blokes around the ball. Where is our size, where are our "tanks", where are the blokes with bodies that can crash in or shrug tackles? I'm no expert in the area of physical conditioning of players, but surely it can only be a result of a lack of concentration on weights training?

Will be really interested in this weeks game against Collingwood, being played over there. I think they really are the team to beat this year, early i know but they have been gifted a dream draw and top 4 is almost a certainty.

It's always been that way. The end-of-season trip this year should be to the weights room.

Interesting. Craig was obsessed with conditioning, Sanderson focussed on size.

Remember a comment he made regarding not being a fan of high altitude training which stemmed back from his Geelong background.

Not sure you can go from 11th to 1st these days.

Tracking very well, but it's only Round 8 and like Essendon* last year they will more than likely run out of steam, especially considering the style they are playing. List is pretty much 99% injury free, although their depth is OK in some areas, and not in others. If Jacobs for example goes down, Tippett/McKernan/Jenkins become their first ruck.

Similar to how we went from flat track bullies to flag favourites based on that Collingwood game, Adelaide are now shorter odds to finish minor premiers ($3) than they were to beat us yesterday ($3.25)

This week we can be risky and try of few things against the inept and young Demons.

We can even scare some into form with delegation to the VFL.
I'm talking the likes of Duigan, Tuohy, Russell, Garlett (he did kick 3), Curnow, Ellard, Bower, TBird, even Gibbs, Kreuzer and Hampson after the performance against the Crows. Warnock's not fit, so Kreuzer and Hampson stay.

If we are going to give Bootsma reward for his VFL effort then I guess he's take Bower or TBirds spot.
TBird might be needed for the 3rd tall unless Waite Walker and Hammer/Kreuzer are tall enough. One of them to go I guess Bower for Bootsma...only because its the Demons.

If we are going to get a game into Buckley as reward for his 4 goals in the VFL it would be for one of the above, and I'm guessing Curnow or Ellard.....Curnow...but I wouldn't play Buckley this year...too skinny.

Waite will come in, and I guess Russell or Duigan would make way....prob Russell.

I'd even consider giving McLean a chance to see if he's got the body and mongrel to batter some Demons kids and in that case I would send Duigan him to the VFL to get fit.

The rest of the abovementioned are lucky not to be dropped and that's only because the cupboard only has Joseph, Collins and Watson to consider. I'd even consider giving Watson a go in the forwardline instead of the more experienced TBird.....or even Collins. But I've calmed down now.

Gotta turn the season back on track over the next 2 rounds. 180 degrees. Have to tune up to beat other finals contenders Geelong at the Dome followed by WCE at Subi before the bye. 3 wins 1 loss will leave us at 8-4 and I don't think that's going to help get us in the top 4. Gotta win the next 4 for 9-3 half way mark.

We also need to get our percentage back in the next 2 weeks.

Gibbs in the guts.

Eight years back in the draft. Three number one draft picks, Chris Judd and all we do is make excuses. We've had more than enough time to build a team to compete for a flag. This is completely unacceptable. When was the last time we over achieved. Essendon* and Coolingwood constantly make finals with crap teams. Reality is we're a nothing club. Built he most successful clubs ( Geelong, brisbane, west coast) in the AFL develop their own. We have a culture of taking short cuts and it just doesn't win flags.

like Lyons response re end of year prospects - not written off.....going to be a tuff year....but still can be a good one if the CFC have a fair dinkum crack....I actually like the position we are in....I think we needed these lessons to ever be real contenders and make necessary changes in structure & MINDSET to be any chance....

We are mentally WEAK. Our players and club as a whole believe too much of their own publicity. When we are flying (ala leading in Rd4, when we won 4 in a row in two separate lots last year, etc) we just lay back and think it's all going to happen. It's an all too familiar story. If we don't address our mental state, we will never make top 4 let alone win a flag. We are lead to believe from the club we are going to make top 4, etc, yet in the 3 losses this year, we have not only lost the games, but were smashed convincingly.
I'm happy to stand corrected if they turn this around this year, but I hope the club recognises our problem is not only structural, from a game plan perspective, but a state of mind.

I've been thinking the same thing, instead of *maybe* winning a flag this year and being satisfied with that I'm hoping that we're able to use the loses we've already suffered to make some modifications to the gameplan and list that will see us genuine contenders for the next few.

I was surprised with all the premiership favourite talk we were attracting as I thought we weren't quite there yet, and that's proven to be accurate. I considered 2013 as the year we would be most likely break our drought and that hasn't changed for me yet.

There lies the problem.
The players as their supporters listen to speculation and propaganda of the mediaand our own delusional fantasies.
We expect a flag.
If not this year then the year after.
If not the year after the one after that.

We should really look at our weaknesses and act appropriately and without emotion.
We have not addressed our weaknesses we have tried but have not succeeded.
In the near future they will be compounded.
As a proud and successful club we really need to get some of that cut throat decision making back and stop looking through rose coloured glasses.

the media's job is to sell papers get ratings and drum up betting.

the clubs job is to understand where its at and what needs to be done to win flags.

the media did its job and will anoint a new flag favourite.

maybe Richmond?

we didn't do our job properly!

Wait, no-one has advocated a "line in the sand" game yet?

For shame.

We'll get Dermott down to training, do a closed session, then around the second quarter, bang, won't see it coming, we'll get Waite to have his annual mid-year suspension for hitting a 17 year old with his head over the ball....could be difficult to find a Melbourne player over the ball, but I'm sure Waite will try....then we'll get stuck into Aaron Davey as we do every time we play them.

McLean can make a glorious end to his Carlton career by throwing down fists at his former teammates, Murphy/Beaumont style, then Robbo can put Nathan Jones in a rear naked choke in the centre square.

Problem solved. 2006 style.

Agree 100 %.... Every time there is some media buzz around our club, we go to water...

It's no different to belting Melbourne on the scoreboard though.

At the end of the day, it's still Melbourne and its never-ending parade of softcockery. At least Port would be over there, and have a few seasoned hacks prepared to put their head over it.

still I am not confident about Melbourne. that number one pick will turn that corner against us.

I wouldn't be confident that if we stayed on the field at half time and tried to strongarm the Auskick kids, it wouldn't degenerate into a session of comparing hairstyles and boot colours.

Melbourne have done us in similiar situations too many times. '96 and '97 were marginally worse than '94 and '00 in some respects..
