Totally agree and it is the first thing we need to do. Then the new coach can assess the list themselves. Amazing how so called average players can become stars with a change of coach.

Thought he did OK with St Kilda as an assistant under Lyon. He was their defensive coach I think and at the time, particularly under the Lyon gameplan they were a solid defensive unit. Not sure he is an unknown quantity. Not sure he is a good Knee Jerk reaction replacement either but he isnt an unknown quantity, he has been working his apprenticeship in the coaching ranks.

Understand that mate....I was referring to him as a potential Head Coach being an unknown quantity.

Who is possible candidates?

Old, hard edged, tried coach?
Young assistant who has aspirations?
Carlton legend who is selected internally and makes us look inbred?
Burnt out try hard coach who failed at another club?

Who?

Sorry to bore, but

If you were a coach wanting a great list...

Carlton....NOW!

Anyone who believes we have a great list is delusional. Carazzo and Laidler out and we fall apart. Who's been playing great football in the ressies banging the door down for selection? Probably just Brock. Our list is a big problem if we are aiming for GF success over the next 3 years. Paper thin. We're pinning our hopes on Dale, Buckley and Lucas

With some clever list management and a new coach we will be up there again.
Our list is ok.. its just unbalanced.
Our team has been training behind closed doors cos it knew that if the opposition got a sniff of what we were doing... we would be in all sorts.

Actually... im interested to see how we bounce back from this.
Do we contrinue doing the same ol' in outs or do we come up with something else.

Do we even look at the opposition and go to town on their weaknesses???

Yeah, that is the answer.

New coach. Best knee jerk reaction by the talking carlton brainstrust.

Ok Carlton have lost 3 games this season.

Loss #1 - Essendon*.
Essendon* at the time looked like pretenders, but they are surely contenders this year. They have only lost one game this season by 1 pt to collingwood. 3rd on the ladder at the moment

Loss #2 - St Kilda
Up until yesterday week they were in the top 8, now sitting 9th. They are a respectable team. They came out and smashed us and tagged murphy out of the game and no one else stood up. They really smashed our midfield.

Loss #3 - Adelaide
Currently sitting 2nd on the ladder. Smashed Geelong last week and smashed Carlton yesterday. Adelaide put immense pressure on Carlton and made Carlton look bad, by forcing Carlton to make mistakes. Carlton were suffocated and never recovered.

So in summary, we have 3 losses, 2losses to the two best teams in the league at present and 1 loss to a team that was in the 8 last week.

So based on that, we should throw out the coach and start a new gameplan next season. Makes sense doesn't it. :banghead:

Carlton need a key forward to be alongside Waite. Until we do that, we won't have a complete spine.

If that rationale makes you sleep easier at night......

A mate who is a Carlton supporter felt that we should've went after
Damien Hardwick before the club re-signed Ratten at the end of 2009.

Not sure what he sees in Hardwick but believes he is a coach who can get
the most out of players.

Even with the good year that we had last year, my mate still went on about Harwick
and even stated that if Harwick stays at Richmond, that they will have more success than us.

He flat out doesnt like Ratten as a coach !

I personally dont rate Hardwick but over the last few weeks on how Carlton and Richmond
have been playing you gotta wonder !!!!!

My choice - Malthouse !

I am trying to get your opinions on who these candidates are?

Realistically who?

Our list has more good in it than bad.

If we get rid of Ratten then who will improve us?

Have posted this several times, we have drafted and recruited poorly for the past 3 years. Maybe the club have realized this and is the reason why Hughes is no longer our recruiter.

will a new coaching group stop the fumbling and lack of composure in the contests ?

we have too many players who are mentally fragile when the serious heat is applied - get through this year and move them on, no matter their surname

get a new coach by all means but please move on the nervous nellies

from what i can tell we look at the opposition and focus on their strengths not their weaknesses. exhibit a: 3 tags on adelaide opponents (reilly, dangerfield and thomson) one using our very lost number 1 pick.

every time weve lost this year ratten rattles off i told ya so's about the oppositions strengths & how we knew they were good at that and we knew they were good at this. sick of it!!
