Are players are developing slower than others in the AFL ...
Is that the recruiters fault or our development coaches?

The usual whipping boy ... Rusell ... development after 10 years in the system ... nope

Ive been defending Gibbs for years, after seeing him pull out of multiple contests again im over it

Number 1 Draft pick that has not developed well at all, we all understand outside players, doesnt mean he can not play hard to win a contest

Duigan, Tuohy and Curnow are new so they deserve their time. TBH i was hoping Tuohy would maintain his form but has dropped away with the team.

Garlett hasnt taken his game above and beyond, he does have a nice goal/game ratio though ...

Love Sugar and think he will be a star but he doesnt look like he is working hard enough to get the ball (would drop Gibbs for him this week to make a statement no one is safe)

We are a shamble atm

My main point is that Jacobs and Grigg since leaving us have blossomed as players.

Jacobs owned our ruckman and Grigg is turning into an elite player

Do people think we are drafting the wrong players or that our development team is challenging the players enough?

I am worried about this............

Grigg was a spud at Carlton and I wasn't upset to see him go. NOW - at Richmond FFS, he looks like a gem!

Sometimes players kick on at a new club - I don't think our record is any better or worse
than anyone elses*. It wasn't like we delisted Jacobs or Grigg - they both made it clear that
they wanted out. Not much you can do in that situation other than try and get the best deal
that you can.

Does anyone really think that Geelong were happy to "let" us have Laidler or Collingwood "let"
us have Scotland? Players seek opportunities at new clubs - it happens.

* Actually it's probably worse than Sydney's who have an excellent record in recycling players,
and I'm pretty sure it's better than Brisbanes who clearly don't.

Nothing of the sort. People were just blind to Grigg at Carlton. Poor man's Pendlebury with pace. Doesn't use it well in space, yet he brought a big body and some shit on the liver to our clearances. Better at standing up in tackles and keeping his arms free than Gibbs. Clearly has tickets on himself after he played the last eight games and walked.

Hey Guys,

My first post here, but I have been reading for a long time. I caught up with a friend that works at the club for lunch yesterday and I heard a little insight into how Ratten categorises his players that I thought was very interesting and I thought I might share.

Ratten has three categories of players.

The We Talk and You Do As I Say. Most of the players in their first 1 - 2 years at the club are in this category.

The We Talk and We Decide Together.

The We Talk and You Do What You Want. There are only 2 players currently in this category. One interesting piece is that there was a certain player a few years ago that was in this category but went right back to the first category with the first and second year players before being traded all together.

there should be no such thing as pigeon holing players like that! all players are vitally important in any structure.

So Basically:

1. Young Players

2. Experienced Players, and

3. D1ckheads!

Sounds pretty reasonable, I'll bet most clubs are the same.

We are not any shitter than we were last year, It's just that other teams have gotten better than us. While we are plateau-ing, other "shitter"teams from last year are improving more than we are and have overtaken us. This screams developmental issues more so than anything else.

Maybe.
He'd also be spudding it up like the bulk of the Carlton team.

The two players currently in this category are definatly not flower. But yeah I agree most clubs probably do have a similar structure. Just thought it was interesting.
