For a couple of years now myself and a few other posters have been saying that Carlton have been behind the times and continue to stay behind the times.
We need the broom to well and truly be brought in sweep out all the past .
This is the AFL not the old VFL
Is there someone out there that can do this and we go out and get the best
coach
coaching staff
conditioning staff
players that give a shit

Thats what is needed.
We may beat Melbourne, Power
Its only a bandaid on a wound that wont heel until personal change
Ratten and Kernahan have to go
Dont wont to sound like a smart arse but I knew today would happen.
It has to happen now.
The first step is for someone to come in and take over the joint.
It needs a complete overall
Old habits die hard
We can turn things around but it wont happen with the current set up

Bottom line is this
The fish rots from the head
So you change the head and set new standards that will filter down to the players.
eventually.
Just got to do it.
Thing is who can that person be.
Ideas guys.

Well said Keogh my only point would be that Pratt left all football decisions in sticks hands.

I said it at the time and this is an area I have experience in, you do NOT put a leader in a position of teaching youngsters that hasn't been taught himself.

Ratten had NO experience in coaching and had a club and a young list that had been through hell.

In that situation it was imperative that a strong experienced personality was put in charge.

Someone should challenge the board and get rid of Kernahan, and he can take Ratten with him.

The funny thing about this post is the misconception about what Dick Pratt did. History as it happened has largely been rewritten (to a large extent on internet forums). When Pratt was asked (for the 5,000th time) for cash...he said he'd come back to the club in an official capacity if his leadership and ideas were implemented...not his cash.

Asked what personnel was needed - the list included a CEO and an elite sports science manager. The quote attributed to him "Always hire the best person for the job, not the best available. If they’re available they’re not the best"...doesn't necessarily ring true as Brian Cook and Dave Misson both rejected the move and second choice Swann and Cordy accepted on fantastic salaries. The Visy deal is great...but it comes with two board members (Ruffy and Jeannie), and I'm not au fait with what they bring to the table.

I knew today would happen too Keogh, so I threw some cash on the Crows winning +24.5...but that was based on stats (+ Crows numbers - they're good), players laziness over the last month and lack of versatility with the current list to match our opponent...

...answers don't come from a Dick Pratt type...they come from list depth, player leadership, coaching nous and wanting it bad enough...not everything is there at the moment...it can still be...but the old fish rotting from the head thing is old school and won't necessarily work with the processes (including Leading Teams) that have been put in place.

Change the mindset, change the routine, tinker with the game plan and put responsibility where responsibility should lie. Changing the President? I don't see how that alters anything.

You dont?
The President sets the tone.
Of course it changes things.
Were ina situation where were treading water and maybe even starting to drown not wave.

The club has no mechinations for succeess.
Its just drifting.

Ever wondered what TWO Pratts are doing on the board???

Whats one brng the other cant by assciation???

Anyone who challenges is invited on the board.

The multi man and woman board 1 clown president and his 2 vice presidents.

If people cant see thats not a great model but more of a dogs breakfast.... thats just funny.

Sticks and the board are in charge of overseeing the club is running well.

I disagree Doc

I think Carlton has a cultural problem, a problem of expectation

I think it believes success will come

the way Collingwood once thought - when i was kid and through my teens and twenties etc

Collingwood thought it would happen

that's us now

we think it will happen regardless.

We need a new head, new thoughts, new ideas.

We need to realize that success will not happen, we must make it happen.

Not we me, but we them - the club. All of them and for all of them to make it happen we need the head
and the ticker to do what is required.

I want to make a t-shirt that reads

If I hear 'we're Carlton @#$%&! the rest'
one more time
I'll buy a Collingwood membership!'

We should be saying

'We're Carlton we need to be better than the rest!'

None of this means anything except this

my brothers and I are getting older and do not go to the football as much anymore

and my son does not go - he lived through the 2000's why should he

where will the new passion come from?

Explain to me how Kernahan falling on his sword during the week and Ruffy Germinder or Jeannie Pratt being put in charge changes the way Bryce Gibbs plays? The President doesn't set the tone. Pratt didn't set the tone.

I don't know the inner workings of the'board and club, but surely the admin we have now is better than the Smorgon/Collo days.

I realise we should always try for better, but let's hope that we don't get the same bananas back again.

The problem with this Doc is given the history of Sticks since Elliot's demise, we know he will not fall on his sword so the very question is pointless.

and yet of all the players you choose its Gibbs - Gibbs would be the least apprehensive player in the history of AFL because Uncle Sticks is the president... Now I know I am being very unfair to Gibbs - he's just a kid playing football - but he needs a coach right now.

I didnt say the Pratts are the best for the job.

But you mean to telll me in all of Carlton Sticks is the best man to lead this football club.????
Keep in mind the many years he has been part of this debarcle.

Is that what youre saying????

Sticks or bust???

The fact Sticks is there stops us from finding someone else.

Cos Sticks is Sticks and the Pratts are the Pratts... NOBODY can make any kind of serious challenge ,

So we continue on ... Sticks n Pratts..n the various other hangers on.

Sticks should piss off.. and go somewhere far... cos being around the place means he is used by others politically.

There is nothng were flying at club wise.

Nothing!!!

I think he needs a girlfriend. He just hasn't been the same since Lauren Tscharke started going out with Andy Lee.

If he does need a coach, it's Craig Bradley.

I totally agree. We think just because we've got Judd and all Bruce's #1s we'll just march on to a premiership bonanza. So while we've been twiddling our thumbs expecting the wins to mount, we've been caught and passed very quickly.

Ratts was on 3AW pre game today giving up many of our strategies for the day. who the @#$%&! does that? Not Campo who was on 5 minutes later :banghead: .
