I considered the "individual" thing, but I still think it applies. (And yes I was only a weekend hack).

If we simply put performance into "poor", "average", "good" then I would suggest that if we have too many
players have a "poor" day then we're in trouble against a reasonable opposition. Not rocket science that
I suppose.

My point of contention is the idea that the players are not really trying or have gone soft. I just don't buy it. I think that the fluctuations are more in skill level than intent. Many times I've heard post match reviews from a losing coach and he'll talk about how the players "looked" switch on before the game.

Looking at our two losses I reckon it was skill errors that cost us more than anything.

We're 5-2 and have won two tough games, (Freo, Coll). We're going ok.

If not McLean then Kerr or McInnes would be nice. A statement of intent.

Given the failure of our forwardline last week, I can't argue with this.

Is it true those named as starting 18 can't be omitted now unless of course they aren't fit to play? In other words only those named on the bench stand to miss out on the final 22?
Also is it true only those named on the bench can be the sub?

Generally the 3 left out are from those named on the bench, but it's not set in stone.
Sub can be anyone.

BigKev players don't lose their skills from one match to another.
What happens more likely than not is they are put under more pressure and waiste their disposal more often.
To over come this in the game a player must work harder and want to win the contested ball more than the opposition this also brings his team mates into the game.
They need to stand up.
This hasn't happened in the two loses so far.
They tend to take the easy option and let the opposition take the ball and not contest, from there it becomes harder.
You must work harder when not in possession to retrieve the ball and reduce the chance of a scoring shot.
Again hasn't happened.
When players are switched on the above two scenarios are reduced and the team looks good and premiership contenders.
When a team aren't switched on or not allowed to play their way and don't work hard enough and don't put up a fight when not in possession they are soft.

That will leave us tall i reckon. Someone tall or sluggish has to come out of the backline.

Duigan and Bower out or just one of the two. Duigan out because of form. Bower to give us a different mix in the back half. A mix that gobbles up ground balls and turns them into attack. Bower is looking better than Jamo but I doubt we will see

I would like a back six of

Touhy jamo Yaz
Gibbs Henda Russ/Collins/Scotland

We get beaten more at ground level or not being quick defending a counter than we do in the air. Even if a third tall kicks a couple we can balance that out with defensive ground ball wins and turning them into attack. Tighten up that midfield to. No easy outlets for them if they pinch it off us.

Just about every top side has a CHF, a FF and a resting ruck. Footy is more contested again these daysw therefore strong marking key forwards are important. Hence Thornton in for mine. Given Waite, while tall, could be a midfield type too we don't lose anything in mobility.

I wonder if we'll see Hendo go forward for a little bit this week. Assuming the MC goes for pace over T-Bird, they could swing Hendo up forward given Walker is out for them. Having Bower in the team gives us some flexibility down back, so we might not need to bring in T bird to fix our forward line problems, although he's been in pretty good touch.

Im sure most people would agree Hendo is the long term answer at CHB, but no reason why he cant go forward where matchups work for us... If Hendo could pull a SOS and pop up for a goal a game it would sure add some diversity. I really prefer him going down there in patches to the little stints we've seen Jamo and Bower have of late...

Last chance for Nick Duigan you'd think, very lucky.

Not happy with those selections.

Last week should not be tolerated and I cannot understand how the positions of Bower, Russell and Duigan are assured.

My gut feeling is that Ratten is too close to some players to make the tough call.

IMO bench should be Collins, Ellard, Robinson & Thornton.

Russell should be sub and think himself lucky.
