We will be much cleaner with ball this week and harder at the ball carrier. Expect an even first half with us pulling away in the second for the win.

Get outta town....doomsdayers !! We were !@#$%& woeful and it's not acceptable. I'd have thought St kilda under Ross Lyon 2 years ago when they were flag favourites were even more suited to Etihad than they were on Monday night! We managed to sneak home by 10 goals that night.....

It's all !@#$%& mental with us - we can't handle expectation !

If we had of kicked straight and had some early umpiring go our way we may well have won the game, despite being beaten in the clearences and physically worked over. But we lost so the doomsayers can rant to thier hearts content. Fair enough. I tend to watch footy differently to most and in a completly different context. Maybe thats because of my sporting background. We had a shit night for sure and there is some stuff that needs to be worked on but really it was far from the disaster many are making it out to be.[/quote]
Your analysis is very interesting BM.

We have been figured out, put pressure and intimidate us and we crumble. The other clubs are saying as much......

We've beaten them the last 2 times at Etihad though. Can't use playing at Etihad as an excuse anymore.

I like what Sellers said on 360 last nite.
That Gibbs is most effective when playing on a very strong opponent.
He suggested putting him on Sloane, but Kingy said, no, Dangerfield, and Sellers agreed.
Gibbsy is good when playing that kind of role. He negates, but he also scores, much like Carrots does.
I hope they use him in that way on Sunday.
The other thing they said, was that Murph should have been told to, or figured out himself, to go to Lenny, and take Jones with him. That way, he's effectively taking out two opposition players. even if he doesn't get a touch. If the opposition are going to target him, then this sounds like an effective strategy.

Since about the first Melbourne game last year, we made the move to have our midfield centered around Murphy rather than Judd. At the time, absolutely the right call, lets look toward winning 2-3 flags over the next 10 years, rather than try and eek out one whilst Juddy is still around.

In hindsight, for one reason or another - this isn't working and needs to be re-addressed. Yet to see Murph dominate a game of football to a level of Judd or Ablett, even Mitchell that would be required if we're developing a game plan around him, with a desired outcome of winning premierships. Come to think of it, you'd barely even call them games with a passing mark.

* - Have those in charge of the midfield not developed a strategy that accomodates Murph's strengths as a football, but instead tried shoehorning Murph into a midfield still set up for Judd?

* - Recruiter's fault for not creating a list that accomodates these set ups? Arguably the least likely of the reasons, even in spite of our lack of mids drafted recently.

* - Do we bite the bullet and say, "bugger it, one flag is better than no flag", and put the onus back on Juddy to be the go-to guy?

At this stage, I tend to lean to the latter, as short-sighted as it may appear. Not just because of the considerable investment in Juddy to not recoup a tangible return, or that at this stage, with the personnel at our disposal/the current midfield model/current level of output, I don't see Murph being able to deliver, but also a heavy reliance on Simpson/Scotland/Carrazzo that is going to be tough to replace at any stage.

Too many teams have adopted a she'll be right approach to list management over the past decade and suffered the consequences. St Kilda, Bulldogs, and the Hawks have all seen a flag or two go begging with an over-reliance on the same old faces. With rumours of McKay's dissatisfaction towards Hughes and his predecessor, I tend to expect something daring at the end of the year, irrespective of how we fare..

Out: Joseph Russell Bower
In: McLean Yarran Thornton

Not really as convinced as others about Ellard ... but we need all the grunt work we can get.

McLean has never been given a chance to settle into the side ... he keeps getting BOG in the seconds and has to be given at least 3 games in a row. Speed is not our big issue ... rather it is in and under at the stoppages. At the draft we need to focus on ball winners but for now (with the loss of Carrots) we have to do as best we can.

I think Thornton is a better option than Bower ... more flexible and dependable.

Yarran has to come in ... someone has to make way ... sorry JR.

Come on Blues!

Why would you drop Russell and Bower ahead of Duigan and Tuohy? :screwy:

Tuohy has shown quite a bit this year ... he had a bad one ... I think it was an anomaly.
Duigan proved last year to be an asset ... he needs more senior game time ... he will get better.

I think I have said enough about Bower in the past ... Thornton would be his replacement ... nothing to do with Tuohy or Duigan.
Russell going out would be unfortunate ... but someone has to make way for Yarran ... (I agree ... it could easily be Duigan).

I guess I am looking at overall team balance ... the MC will probably go another way ... I rarely agree with them. I picked St Kilda to beat us ... I thought the MC made bad decisions last week.

Wouldnt be dropping Tuohy but Duigan in my opinion needs to get fit and gain some confidence at the Northern Blues, because he is a mile away from where he was last year.

He's had 4 bad ones in a row.
His first 3 were great, but he has really dropped off. Hardly an anomaly.

Interested to know how Brock can be Judd's wingman when he can't even cover the ground. Brock will be half a play behind him all day.

Worth a shot though. It's time Brock was told he's in for 3 weeks, now or never, show us what you've got. Not revolving doors after one game.

They're saying Waite has a hip injury on the AFL website.

I reckon these guys are wrong. It's not like Essendon* and St.Kilda were the only teams to try and
"rough us up". Every team tries it. Carlton aren't soft. We lost because of poor ball use.
Why did this happen? Who knows. Anyone here play golf? Do you play your best round every
week? I know I didn't -- and it wasn't because of a lack of effort or "toughness". Fluctuations
in form are just part of the human condition. We are a good side, but we're not good
enough to beat even mid-range teams if we're having a down day.

"Down form" doesn't last forever though -- I woudn't be surprised if we cream Adelaide.

PS - Thanks for all videos Wookie. Really appreciate your efforts.
